To be fair, the 26 people who voted in that poll (well, 25 since Cajole voted twice) are probably smarter than the average folk

I liked it because it was a great ride with some amazing scenes and a storyline/writing that I didn't feel like was pandering to the lowest common denominator [ala Transformers]. Some good acting from most of the main leads too, that certainly helps. It's not going to make the list of the top 10 movies of the past decade, but it is one of the best "big" movies that I've seen recently.

Easily the best thing about it was Tommy <3

But back to real talk: I think I'm gonna quickly go through this thread later and check WHY you guys, and apparently everyone else, liked the movie so friggin' much. I'm mostly disappointed in Cohen, tbh.

You're disappointed in a guy for liking at the very least a well-made movie, smh

I could understand if it was Transformers or something

yeah, it has been mentioned way back when, but the dreams aren't "dreamy" and stuff is because it's a heist movie and they're trying to trick the mark.  It would be like trying to steal a white supremacist's wallet at a clan meeting and going with a crew of blacks, asians, and hispanics.

the instance you really see them intentionally do crazy thing is when Leo and Juno first go into a dream.  Even then, she didn't realize it was a dream because that was the intention.  When both of them were aware, they were able to change the city around and all that.

about the shooting scene...yeah, that was pretty boring.  But Mombasa (from the OST)  :bow2

Quote
dreams that barely resembles anything dreamlike

THEY WEREN'T SUPPOSED TO BE

When the subconscious realizes something is wrong, it should project things more sinister than lame goons with guns as a defense mechanism.

If you were paying attention in class the introduction, you'd remember that the dream was populated by what the person knows.  It's like how Cillian Murphy's idea of Tom Berenger appeared in the hotel section.

And Leo and his crew would have to summon something equally powerful to counteract it and suddenly the movie becomes Dragon Ball Z...or 2012.

I'd love to hear how you could make it more dreamlike considering everyone's dreams are usually so very different and to be quite frank, most dreams don't make sense and aren't very interesting except to the person having them.  Sounds like the blueprint to a successful movie to me!  But I went in with no expectations so I think that had something to do with it.  I actually expected it to be bloated, long winded and full of itself like TDK but I got a good heist movie with a unique premise.  Sounds fantastic to me.

I think people were expecting Eternal Sunshine or Paprika (actually, I know because people cited these movies countless times).  That's fine and all, but I thought it made sense.  That is, after a long explanation at the beginning that did get pretty dull.  They really do just read the manual so you understand what is happening during the entire inception job, yet people were still confused.

If you want to watch a movie about what dreams are actually like, watch Akira Kurosawa's Dreams. It's a bunch of weird little stories that end abruptly with no resolution JUST LIKE A REAL DREAM!

The most offensive thing about the entire movie was that all those events happened so a guy would cross some borders. There was literally no other way guys.

That's one potential interpretation, yes, the very literal one.

So it comes down to this? that Inception was so perfect, that any criticisms towards it, means "the movie wasn't for you"?

No, it's just that if you don't like it, you're dumb.

haha inception isn't perfect by a long shot.  I have a lot of the same problems that the detractors have, but I feel like the successes outweigh the faults.  Just like a lot of people just focus on the bad parts, I choose to focus on the good parts.

jin, listen, you fucked up the first rule of enjoying a movie in theaters - reading about it first on the internet - from the point of at least a month before i went to see inception with a bunch of neighbors from the lake i didnt have internet access for over a month except for shitty sub 3g fuzz on my iphone which i didnt use because i didnt want to go over and frankly was partying almost every night either in town or at some other person's cottage, you should EXPECT disappointment after reading anything about a movie on here, or anywhere else online

if you saw it virgin like i did you would have gotten a feeling that you havent felt since the matrix, something that makes talking about the movie to the people you went with awkward until you slept on it

Ah well, since I can't come up with anything that wouldn't lead to a dealwithit.gif or "lulz old" rather than a meaningful discussion, I guess I'm posting in the wrong place. My bad, guys.

We already went through this for 15+ pages back when the movie first came out, no one's got the strength to go through it all again until the Bluray hits.

Jin, you're free to dislike the movie as much as you want. No-one is dinging you for your opinion, it's just that the discussion seems to have already been pretty well hashed over.

I really liked the movie, you didn't, Matt and Trey didn't, and Willco may or may not have liked it but he sure loved trolling it.

The only thing I can think to add to the "bu-bu-but there's nothing dreamlike about those dreams!" argument is that dreams make perfect sense to the dreamer until they wake up. All that weird stuff rarely seems weird during the dream. As such, it's reasonable that these constructs make a lot of sense for all the multiple participants. As for why lucid dreaming techniques don't work (Hey! Why doesn't the guy just FLY AWAY?), I'd say it's because it's technically not even his dream, right?

boo hoo

We've gone over the complaints so many times, sorry no one wants to write it again just for you; you could always read the thread you know.

My problem with complaining about how "clean" Nolan brought subconscious to life is that it's his take on the subconscious - complaining about strict realism in a sci fi film almost always feels like a last ditch "well I slept with your wife" argument imo. There are plenty of films out there with trippy dream sequences, monsters, women with three boobs, etc. Sure, things could have been more unstable/crazy in the dream world, I would have liked that too. But using that as a spring board to complain about everything else seems meh. The film is very well executed, even most haters agree on that point.

Not this shit again.

These dreams were artificial constructs of the team to create a world in the target's mind stable enough that they could create manipulative scenarios to their ends.

They were not normal dreams with their randomness and non-causality and the film was not an examination of such.

it was pretty good for 100 minutes or so. the last ±40 minutes felt like a drag; it just kept going on and on and on--it could've used some editing there--but it got better at the end (loved the climax). and leo's performance was great, but then again, he's leo. omg. i was disappointed with jgl's-- :heartbeat i'm a fan--performance, though; i found it to be rather flat.

it's the type of movie where it stimulates discussion right after you come out of the theatre and you discuss all the possibilities, and you're like 'omg that's awesome' and so on.

but a couple of months down the line, a friend brings it up for some reason, and you're like, 'dude let it go, no one gives a damn any more; it's mind-numbing to go through it again and again.'
