What is hot in the world of mice, PC Bore?

I currently have a crud-encrusted wireless Logitech thing, about 5 years old. I'm sure there are tastier options but damned if I know where to start. Wired is perfectly fine by me - I have been forced to change batteries with trousers around ankles too many times.

I don't really know anything about mice, but I like my Microsoft Sidewinder mouse that's wireless but you can unwind a little wire from the receiver and hook it to the mouse and charge it while you're using it.

My Kensington mouse is the similar, but it uses two AAA batteries (which last about a month with heavy use) and has a wire inside the mouse that can be hooked up to the receiver.  It's really awesome having a wireless option if you need it.

If you asked on gaf, a bunch of people would say the old Logitech mx518 mouse.  I used that for a while and it is a good mouse. 

Right now I'm using a Logitech G9.  One weird thing about gaming mice I never understood.  There are different mice designed around different type of grip.  I guess it comes down to preference.  Anyway, back to the Logitech G9, it took some getting used to from my mx518 series because it is a different type of grip.  What I like about it, other than the comfort, is how customizable it is and how quick it is to change between profiles and options on the mouse itself.  You can even set the software to select a specific profile depending on the game you're playing.  But that's all in the software and I'm sure other mice are just as good there.  I'm just satisfied with what I have for now.

For wireless mice, the Razer Mamba (I think it is the Mamba) is supposed to good.  There is also the Sidewinder that has the Microsoft bluetrack tech, which essentially means it can be used on any surface.

I have both a Logitech G9 and a Razer Mamba.  The G9 is basically the same as the G9X except for a slightly lower maximum DPI. 

Both are great mice but I prefer the Mamba a bit more.  The Mamba is slightly more comfortable, has better placed side buttons and a very responsive wireless mode.  Wireless mode is basically lag free which is a huge improvement from all the wireless mice I've used, including the Logitech G7.  If you hate recharging the battery, then wired mode works exactly the same as any wired mouse.  The wire is easily attached or detached unlike the MS sidewinder.  The main con is that Razer software is not quite as reliable as Logitech.  It make take you a couple of tries before the firmware and drivers install properly.  The main bug for me is that wireless mode would sometimes require turning the mouse on and off a couple of times before it's recognized.  It doesn't happen much though and putting it in wired mode solves the problem completely.

If you don't care about wireless mode, then take a look also at the Razer Imperator.  It's almost the same as a Mamba but even more comfortable for right handers. 

G9 or G9x are fantastic options as well.  The only major issue with the G9s, like Swaggaz mentioned, is that their grips are quite unconventional.  They do come with two grips but both take some time getting used to.  The G9s are also weight adjustable which do affect how the mouse feels during play. 

Ultimately, the Mamba is the mouse for me because having no bungee recoil is just really awesome.  Moving the Mamba in wireless mode with complete freedom and zero lag trump any weaknesses it might have. 

Protip:

Be sure to get a quality mouse mat as well.  It would really make a difference with high DPI gaming mice.

The Mamba was $150 when I got it. 

But MAF was raving about it so I just had to try it.

I'm using a Razer Destructor but it's probably overkill and overpriced.  I liked Func as well but I haven't kept track of their recent products.

Quick check shows that Imperator is $50 cheaper.  Go with that if wireless isn't that important to you.  I should also mention that the battery needs to be charged almost every day if you plan to use it in wireless mode.
