Qutting video games for a months?
« on: July 12, 2010, 01:21:05 AM »
Anyone else ever do this? I do it constantly. I'll just go cold turkey for like 6-8 months. Anyway, I'm gonna do it again so I can work on some other shit for awhile.

fuck that.  just learn how to better budget your time.  no reason to pat yourself on the back for denying yourself the things that you like.

Haven't done it much this gen, but then I don't have the time to spend playing them I used to either. Previous gens I'd do it all the time, play like crazy for a few months, then ignore the hobby for a few, but it was never so much a conscious decision as it was just being busy or haviong fun with other stuff.

Sometimes I'd just wind up selling all my stuff, and then wind up coming back to it a year later. :dur

Video games are the only form of entertainment that I care about, so nope.

I basically stopped playing videogames for the past 5 or so years and now I'm on a binge.

Video games are too deep rooted in my life to outright stop unless I have a bunch of other stuff going on.  I mean, in the past few days I've only played about two hours between TF2 and Nier.  That is very little relative to how much I normally play.

I kinda oscillate between exclusively playing one multiplayer game (SC2 at the moment) and marathoning a bunch of single player games in quick succession. I played a total of maybe 5 new single player games from '05 to '09 because I was so consumed by WoW. I don't think I've ever outright quit, though. I mean, I'd like to think that I'd spend more time reading or doing some other productive thing if I were to cut back on video games, but I'd invariably just end up pissing away even more time on forums

I don't stop playing, but I'll go through periods where all I play is one game (TF2 or Football Manager 2010). Then after a month or so I'll have an interest in playing something else like Lego Harry Potter or Alpha Protocol.

I find I tend to go insane if I don't have some game time once in a while to clear my mind.

I've gone months not playing games before. Other things took precedence, no biggie.

I don't consciously make the decision to stop playing them or anything, I just get bored and end up not playing them for a while. I was like that for most of this year after I beat ME2. Then RDR I played a bit and kinda got sick of quickly.

But now I've been playing TF2 and SC2 beta a shitload. PC gaming :rock

If I have free time, I don't see why I shouldn't spend time playing.  I do go weeks without playing sometimes though if I'm really busy.

Nope, apart from times when I'm so busy I don't have time to game, I'll always manage to play at least once a week. I like classic games, so even if there's nothing interesting out now, I can always dip into the archive and play something old. Last time I remember not gaming for more than a week was when I got grounded in 2nd grade and got my NES taken away from me :P

Same.  Don't let video games run your life and there shouldn't be any problems.  If you can't play for a couple of days or weeks or whatever, then get done what you need to and then get back to your hobby when you've got free time.  It's not a big deal.

I play fighting games pretty much all the time because I have a group of RL friends that are also really into them and I fuckin' love playing games with those guys, but I go through very lengthy periods where I have zero interest in gaming otherwise.

I actually don't play video games, I just love to post about them.

Not buying games does wonders for my monthly budget and I still get to troll. win/win

Disgusting gaffurt!

I've got so many games in my backlog, and games that I'd like to play again, that I really don't have to worry about not having anything to play.

yeah, the only times when I didn't game that much were periods when I was younger, when I couldnt afford new games to play and birthday/xmas were a long way off. Otherwise I've played games pretty much every day

All time.  It's mostly SSFIV for me right now.  I'm becoming a more multiplayer only gamer these days.

I wish time were a transferable commodity, I'd gladly take all that gaming time you don't want to use.

Played Crackdown 2 for one hour a few days ago. Haven't played a game in months before that.
I don't think I'm going to play another game until GT5 gets released.
