Not only will it fly, but it's going to happen. And I've been warning people about this for years.

The first step was making you pay to unlock content that already existed on the disc.  Next step is to actually make you buy content to complete the game.

Hell, Assassin's Creed 2 already did it.

This is a great plan. Sell incomplete game at full price then sell more DLC at higher prices. Consumers will love it

Surely people will just crack the DLC?

I dunno, give it to me on Steam painlessly and I'll buy any old shit rather than torrent.

It worked for Japanese cars. I mean, it's slightly different to sell a cheap, cheap car and then make up for it in replacement parts. But the model's there.

Yeah, pirates will get both the full game and DLC for free and the legit consumers still get fucked over.  :-\

Sell unfinished games to make quick cash
Fixed.

This is nothing new, this is the reasons why i started to...  :piss PC  :piss2 ...after almost 20 years of love
Selling unfinished, bugs party, crash fest unplayable games...that has PC become :'(...consoles are headed into that direction also :yuck :yuck
It will be patched...wait for the patch....in some cases even years are not enough...maybe i should  buy your game in few years then, when it's done. :yuck

I have nothing against DLC on the disc per se...but they have to write that on the box, content description has to be accurate...consumer has to be aware about what he is buying

Software is like a big legal gray area so developers are exploiting that...for now

The big problem here is that gaming is an entertainment business and there are tons of people that would bend over and give charity money to their favorite company.

Publishers are, not devs.

BTW you are distinguished mentally-challenged with your PC stance. PS3 games need more patches than PC games nowadays.

I know but devs are not totally innocent...

As for PS3 patches(and games),they require to pass some QA and that costs money...maybe some quick patches are excluded

probably for discounted price $50 vs $60

That would be good actually...but somehow i think that the plan is to charge $60 at the start

Yeah he knows his stuff. I wonder what exactly did he do at Microsoft. Excel, Word dev?

Apparently he was a producer on the early versions of Windows.

Basically you're expecting future console games to be a hybrid of fully featured titles and F2P games with a discounted price, Borys?

But seriously: What Willco and Bob said. It's gonna be fuckin shitty, but video game nerds are too sedentary and spineless to do anything about this should it come to fruition

It's a good thing Nintendo aren't heavily invested in DLC, they may very well end up being the only company that releases full games.

It'll be really fun a few years down the line when you want to install the game on a new PC/get a new system, only to find that the DLC servers have shut down.

I thought this would be about selling unfinished as in canceled games.  To make up the money lost in funding those experiments.  Hell, you could even sell the assets of those games like tree and car models, ground textures, and so on.

I could see episodic content working well on the PC but not really on a console.  If people wanted to get a short single-player experience, the best type of game to sell in episodes, they'd rent the game.

I don't like the idea of getting a game at retail without the designed ending for it in the box. As much flak as they get the way Bioware and Remedy are doing free DLC extras for people who bought their games new through codes in the box is something I think is good. However cutting out something which detracts in no small way to the way a game plays out will only make people think their game is worse than it is imo, there's a difference between additional sidequests and key sequences. I don't know statistics but I'm betting there's a large amount (probably the majority) of people who play games and don't bother with DLC much.
