ugh i got hit with some terrible shit that damn near locked me out of my computer a few months ago.  i managed to get malwarebytes on it with a flashdrive, but i had to run it over and over again before the really vicious stuff got destroyed.  i still get pop-ups, though, and my wireless connection fucks up all the time.  the only way i know how to fix it is to keep restarting over and over til it randomly decides to work correctly :(

My dad had some (allegedly) crazy shit on his laptop all weekend that sounded similar to the OP, and I finally went over and dealt with it. I tried helping him on the phone, but he said the internet would shut off whenever he went to the  malwarebytes website. Yesterday he showed up at the office with his laptop like "hey where can I plug this in?" smh.

Wound up taking it back to his house since hooking it up to the network at the office would be beyond distinguished mentally-challenged. I got a couple popups but ultimately was able to download and run malwarebytes, which nuked the problem. Turns out he was simply getting those official looking "warning your computer is fucked buy thisss" ads whenever he went to certain sites and the problem wasn't too big

Removing this stuff is simple. :pimp

hit 'Start', 'run', type 'msconfig'. Go to the start up tab and look for some usually "bogus" filename like vvlrqqqch.exe and notice the path to the filename.

Navigate to the folder and delete everything you can. You will not be able to delete most of it because it's "in use". :derp

Boot into safe mode or for hardcore shit, boot to a command prompt, navigate the path and remove the whole folder. If you cannot delete it from a command prompt it's time to format.

After it's deleted, THEN run a scan to clean up remnants that are likely installed into your system restore files.

There are bastard children viruses that do not allow you into MSCONFIG. YMMV

Zero Hero: there was nothing out of ordinary there. No weird shit like temp32.exe, dataguard.exe etc. just svchost, lsass etc. - the usual Windows Services that cannot be force closed.

There was nothing out of the ordinary in msconfig or regedit too. Nothing that I did not know that booted up with Windows.

It was a fucking hardcore viruz that destroyed my PC :maf

Luckily, format c: works wonders :pimp
