Way too late to the party: SUTUREEEET FIYATAH FOURR
« on: July 21, 2010, 08:11:09 PM »
why did I wait 2 years to start playing this game? One of the best fighters Ive ever played, I shouldve taken note that everyone on the Bore was playing the damn game  :(

Oh well, better late than never! There seems to still be a good number of opponents online.

Hit me up if you'd like to play!

Also, whats a "flashy background finish"? You need to do them for an achievement. If done a few Ultra combo and Super finishes, are they the same thing?

that thread is for SUPER Street Fighter 4  ::)

And how may times have you made a "this game is great thread" when you couldve easily searched and bumped an old thread?

Im borrowing a friends copy of regular SFIV.

I think I'll just keep plugging at it, get some cheevs, and if I get hooked and competitive I'll invest in Super.

Yeah (S)SF4 is pretty much the best game this generation.

Flashy background finishes are when you beat someone with a super or ultra, so for the achievement you'll need to do that 365 times. You should be able to get a decent amount of points with some dedicated playing (700 or so I'd say), but the last few hundred points can be very difficult.

Does anyone even still have SF4 on consoles?   :lol  The last time I tried the PS3 version (dumped the 360 version right when SSF4 hit) was maybe two weeks after SSF4 was released. There was one person online.

Get SSF4 and join the rest of us.

I'm paleolithic but even I picked up SSF4 after leapfrogging SF4.

I still have my copy, but I obviously don't play it. I don't plan on getting rid of BlazBlue: CT either after I get CS.

theres a lot of people still playing regular SFIV on 360, had a bunch of matches last night. Almost won a couple too, which excited me as Im a huge noob.

Whats the best way to learn how to play? Youtube videos? Spending ages in training mode learning all the moves?

But yeah, Im gonna pick up super.

The Saikyo Dojo on shoryuken.com's forum is a good place for beginners to learn the ins and outs of SF. There's a good video guide here: http://shoryuken.com/f322/basic-video-tutorial-guide-total-beginners-ssf4-234560/

It's a lot to take in all at once, but that covers pretty much all of the stuff you need to know. Or you could just learn as you play, either way works really. But for starters, I'd suggest learning the difference between chains, links, and cancels, and then learn some of the essential combos for whatever character you're using. Like with Ryu, cr.lk, cr.lp, cr.mk xx hadoken is a good combo.

I'm surprised- there is no reason to playing vanilla SF4 unless all you have is a PC.

Hit up the SRK forums and check the character discussion threads for some basics and match-up threads.  Videos are good too.  Basically just get familar with your character(s) of choice and learn the basics, then go from there.  For me it was just playing and playing and playing online matches like crazy that helped me to learn a lot.  I don't spend a huge amount of time talking about the game and probably don't know a bunch of the flavor-of-the-moment technical terms that people like to make up.

Also SSF4 has changed things up from SF4.  You'll find some characters are now better or worse than before, and the new ultras can really change things up.  If you're running into a lot of Sagat players online, for example, you won't find many at all in Super.

Yeah I'm giving the character trials/tutorial challenges a go. Not a bad way to learn the basics.

Which characters do you guys recommend? Is everyone fairly balanced? (ie. you've got a chance with everyone if youre good enough?). Or are there some useless pricks like in Tekken?

Im considering learning Rufus, Sakura or Blanka. Im only really decent with Ryu atm and really want to learn someone else. I can use Sagat I guess but he's pretty disgusting.

Im gonna pick up Super when I get paid, so I'd be keen to hit you guys up for a schooling  :-*
