Moving out of my parents house.
« on: July 22, 2010, 01:07:39 PM »
This place has been my home for 15 years now. Guaranteed I will drive back here one night and then realize I don't live here anymore. The place I'm moving to is in a poor white neighborhood but I can make my life as comfortable as my finances allow, which is DAMN comfortable now as I just got a raise at the porn store. My rent + bills are 130$ total and I make a little over a grand a month. More to the point, I'd be living in my own room for the first time in quite awhile. Also, most of my socializing already occurs at the house in question.

Oh yeah, the last place we rented was $1500 a month four years ago. Our mortgage alone is just shy of $3,000...

I am about to start paying on my student loans so there is that, but eh.

You only lived with your parents for 15 years?

We moved when I was nine or ten. about 3 miles up the road, and built a house on the land where my dad grew up. It's a quite nice place. Billyofcourse and tehjaybo have seen it. :-*

As an added side bonus, living in a house where I can get as rowdy as I like means that I can invite Kentucky-bore or whoever up here the next time I throw a party.

Good luck! I moved out about 4 months ago and moved in with my girlfriend. We live in a pretty nice 2 bed/1 bathroom place right beside our college and rent is $435 a month and utilities/internet is about $230 a month. We split all the costs so it's relatively manageable but $130 total? Damn.

Location is everything, guys.  Keep in mind that not only is this Kentucky and not a major urban area, but T234 already said it was in a poor area, so there you go.  I've actually thought about applying for a job with Troll and Toad out in Kentucky but then I'd have to grow a mullet or something and we can't have that.

Quick, everybody list ridiculous things that you spend $130 or more on every month.

In all seriousness, this thread just made me realize that I spend around $130 on CREAM every month. The stuff that comes from cows, not moisturizer (that's a whole separate budget). I used to easily spend more than that on coffee.

I spend it per week on eating out.
I pay the same amount monthly for my healthcare plan.
I could live there half a year with the money I'm spending on an iPad today.
I could live there for 3 months with the money I've spent on a phone last week.

Also Thor, if you are going to be security above and beyond your other normal duties, you should ask for a raise.  $1000 a month is peanuts. Is it a full time position?

HOMO SAUSAGE WINS.

My monthly cable bill is more than T234's rent. We spend more a month eating out. During the school year, I spend more on gas than he does on rent. Shit, the concrete saw I rented yesterday was about the same as what he spends on rent each month.

$1022 is the going rate for a mediocre 1BR/1BA in the DC area, actually. The cost of living is pretty ridiculous.
