The way he described it sounds like he is going for a big budget blockbuster version of Pan's Labyrinth which is why I am intrigued. If it's another Hellboy type of affair though...then no thanks.

I have a feeling Del Toro is on the verge of becoming the next Tim Burton, making movies that constantly have the same look and more interested in creature/set design than anything else. I hope I am wrong though.

I think one of the major problems with PotC 3 [and to a lesser extent PotC 2] was that they had some many characters from the previous movies and brand new characters added in that you've suddenly got a dozen main characters that are all running around doing things. PotC 1 was much more focused in that regard.

The original is one of my favorite movies ever.  When I heard about a sequel, I figured they'd just keep Depp and introduce a whole new cast, but nope, they just had to bring everyone back and try to make it more serious and "deeper."     Maybe this fourth movie will get back to basics.  Isn't it supposed to be Jack Sparrow racing against Barbossa to find the Fountain of Youth?

I don't pretend that its sequels don't exist like I do with the Matrix, though.

Transformers is one of those movies like The Towering Inferno; it made a lot of money but it isn't going to hold up at all ten years from now.

Still, in ten years I think I'll be able to enjoy Crystal Skull on some level.  I don't think it's an AWFUL movie, just a very average one.  Harrison Ford was in good form and performed way, way better than I expected.  I really hope he does a couple more Indy films before he really is too old.

The POTC series suffered cause everything had to do with Jack from Dead Mans Chest onwards, I hate when they take an awesome character and make him the main focus to the point that you stop caring about him.

What? The problem with At World's End was all the shitty characters/pointless plot diversions that were a waste of time. See: Tia Dalma
Jack being the focus is part of what is making people hopeful for the fourth movie.

True, which is why I am not 100% positive it will be great. But I have no idea what about it guarantees you it will be shit. It has a chance at being a lot of fun based on the cast and concept.

Crystal Skull would've been fine but the tone was all off, everything was jokey jokey call backs - the entire time Ford was playing himself having fun being Indian Jones. It was hard to take anything seriously.

The fridge scene gets unduly hate as the symbol of how shitty it was - it was perfectly fine except for the fact that it was fling like a mile through the air. The scene would've played out so different if it wasn't made with floaty, massleess CG that shat up the movie.

Yeah. Thankfully, a story from Tim Powers is pretty fucking good. Blackbeard played by the scariest badass from Deadwood is also noteworthy. It's possible that they'll screw it up, but I'm hopeful.
