The two pot initiatives in Washington state failed to get enough signatures to make the ballot this year due to the two groups fighting each other and an inability to get enough non-permabaked signature gatherers. One of their ideas was to include a signature page in a local alternative weekly in the hopes that readers would rip it out, have their friends sign it, and then mail it in. I'm sure that worked really well.
Also, the Washington state Democratic party was unwilling to donate any money to either campaign.
