I think its less about the city, more about the people.  Infinite is obviously way more interested in building a living, breathing population and history, as opposed to the decadence of Rapture.  I think both takes make sense for both games.

Wait, what? Rapture is full of crazy people who avoid you or try to kill you, or actively cower from you if they're little girls. Infinity is populated by copies of five or six iterations on cardboard cut-outs, sitting or standing around, waiting for you to get close enough so they can say their one verbal exchange with each other, and then turn to stare at you blankly.

Columbia is way creepy, but I wouldn't say that it's alive.

Rapture has splicers -- Infinite has people.  I guess I'm not explaining this well...I just think that in Infinite, I'm walking around a city at its peak of social interaction and class distinction...Rapture, I only ever felt I was dodging away from crazy Splicers, I never felt the city was either inhabited or habitable in the first place.

I really liked how crazy the ending was, but I've already forgotten just about everything else.

It's as deep as I expect from a videogame...I'm not saying its subtle or anything.

Burial at Sea Episode One comes out tomorrow. And apparently it sucks according to reviews.

Not interested in playing at all.

It's most definitely the best shooter of the year. Has some of the best mechanics in a shooter in a number of years. The genre has been pretty much static and dead for like, 5 years? The usage of weapons + powers + skyline makes it incredibly dynamic. I have absolutely no idea how anyone can call Infinite run of the mill.

this is like, the worst post I have ever read on this forum

I mean, opinions and all, I like some turds, but saying Infinite is dynamic and "has the best mechanics of a shooter in years" is just so straight up crazy. I always thought Bioshock fans were just stanning for the pretty pictures and the feels, but it seems they have even fewer brain cells than I originally thought.

It is hard to describe the level of affection I feel for System Shock 2, and the first Bioshock. They were milestones in gaming. I did still feel that Bioshock trimmed away much of the discrete skill path usefulness, in that there wasn't anything which couldn't be solved by Freeze-Ray > Wrench, until you got to the final boss, and by then you had all the powers anyway. I can't recall if it was even possible to get all the powers in SS2.

Bioshock Infinite falls even further down that descending curve toward utter simplicity, by providing the powers in a specific order instead of giving choices from the outset. The world is pretty enough, but it is stunningly monotonous, to the point where I can't remember which direction I came from after a firefight, and the only way to know where to go is the opposite direction from where the bodies are lain, or toward whomever is next fighting me.

Pretty sure I won't be going back to it. It's a shame; I think I'll pass on whatever Levine is shoveling next.

I've already discussed why I liked the game so I'm not gonna bother retreading that thread with someone who's only method of discussion is insulting the other person for disagreeing with them. Sorry my tastes in FPS games doesn't line up with yours? Guess we'll have to agree to disagree?

Burial at Sea appears to be exactly the kind of fan-service I was expecting. Not surprised it's not getting well-received.
