I want to make a movie or tv show about college in America.
- Our main character is your average 17 year old - she wants to attend college and make her family proud.
- She attends a school that has a $70k annual tuition. In this version of America, this will be considered low. McDonalds is also the de facto standard for dining cuisine.
- The classes are easy. She doesn't even have to study to make A's.
- None of her friends knows what they want to do with their lives despite the cost to attend school. They feel like they owe it to their parents to attend higher education, to show they're willing to have good futures, and because everyone else goes...so why not?
- She chose an art degree and most of the classes she ends up taking are not art-related in the least so she ends up learning about her profession outside of school, making her question why she should bother with college to begin with.
- Eventually, her friends begin to turn into zombies, one by one, Stepford Wives style. They are now slaves to higher education and only want "that degree" and not a rewarding education.
- They eventually morph into people who only have money on their mind. "If you have money, you can be happy!" "When I get my degree, I'll be rich!" "500k in college loan debt? No big deal!" These people have become slaves to the establishment and are wage slaves in training.
- Our heroine stands alone, as if the last sane person in the United States. They try to convince her that they're somehow right and that college isn't one big sham. They try to convince her with violence at the height of the conflict.
- She graduates. Open-ended ending: she's handed her diploma...is she now a zombie too?
Kanye West did it with the College Dropout. I want someone to do this with a movie. The Office Space of university culture. IT NEEDS TO HAPPEN.
