My first Suikoden game ever. I loved it. Could never beat the end boss, though. Stopped playing after I died a few times.
This and Tierkreis are the only Suikoden game I've ever played. Liked them both. I finished Tierkreis at least.

How bad are the graphics? I tried to play the older Persona games after having finished Persona 3. But I just couldn't play them.

Suikoden 1 looks like shit.

Suikoden 2 is one of the best looking 2d rpgs on the psx. It also the best overall rpg on the psx.

Suikoden 1 really doesn't hold up much. Ugly portraits, can't run;etc the one thing it has going for it it is setting up the history and lore for the rest of the series.

I finished those games a couple of years ago and was actually replaying them before getting 3, love them.

My first Suikoden was IV, I found it in an used games stores bought it and even though the game is crap I loved the concept and proceeded to download the first two.

Also whats up with IV? it looks a lot worse than III and they got rid of a lot of features and shit, whats that game done by a different team or something?

and its nice that the main characters in III actually speak, one of my biggest problems with the series is how this mute kids somehow become leaders of an revolutionary army

, in this game the characters at least have some personality.

Actually 4 looks better than 3. The character designs are worse, but in terms of detail it's lots better.

As for the features, yeah it was done by a different team. There are two Suiko teams. 4 was headed by a new team and a new director. When it came out, there was a big 3 backlash by a lot of 1 and 2 fans, so the makers of 4 tried to go back to Suikoden's "roots", and ended up fucking up everything.

The only thing I really liked about IV was that it was in widescreen and progressive scan which was incredibly rare for console rpgs back in that day. The game's locales looked really good at times (character designs were forgettable though). Other than that it's a slow plodding mess. I and II are obviously good, and I really enjoyed III as well but I still need to go back and finish the game with the other characters. Sadly I have still yet to purchase and play V. I should go on a gamestop run and see if I can still find a copy.

both games use 2D graphics so they pretty much look like a really late SNES game,the artwork was made by different artist so the character art in the first one looks somewhat rugged where in the second one is more animu looking

Oh shut the fuck up. No they don't Suikoden II has better animation, better looking sprites and has a better color pallete.

Rugged is not a good description for Suiko 1 portraits. Pixelated and muddy is. The art itself is good, but the portraits are awful in game.

I hate that to get the best ending you have to do trivial obtuse things to recruit everybody. Turns me off completely. I've only ever finished Suiko 1. I remember having to grind just to beat the 1 on 1 fight that you have to win to save the one guy (the butler?) when he tries to sacrifice himself.

I always thought you were ok with using walkthroughs since you use achievement guides for 1000ing games.

If so, just play with a walkthrough. Then you don't miss anything and get all the stars.

I don't actually like using guides for an initial play - achievement guides are for cleanup. But I prefer to go for the best ending, and the requirements for Suikoden are a complete turnoff.

i think the game is awfull,boring dungeons,character who looks like deformed midgets,boring generic plot (this should count twice since it's suikoden),battle's that last forever
i think i lost it when i discovered there is an accesory that makes your character run faster,the catch? IT'S IN A DUNGEON FULL OF DEAD ENDS WHERE EACH ROAD LOOKS THE SAME! if they realized the character move too slow then why they didn't simply made him faster instead of hiding an accesory that makes you run faster in a random dead end?

I still need to play Suikoden III to completion. I stopped when you first got to play as the little kid... got a bit sick of backtracking, was about 10 or so hours into it. Playing Rudra's Treasure and its similar split scenario system makes me want to tackle this again some day.

Suikoden III is one of those rare JRPGs where I actually enjoyed the story. I think I could probably count those games on one hand and still have a couple of digits left over.

Loved the idea of playing 3 different characters simultaneously with their own perspectives of the overall story. Good stuff.

Finished Suiko 3 ,awesome game and some great characters but Suiko 2 is still king so far

The version of Suikoden 5 I downloaded gave me a dre error even thought it was burned correctly, the only other version I could find online was a "undub" version( japanese voices and english subs)

downloading that one to see if it works.

Yeah, it was a little boring tbh but luckily it was pretty short, its there a big difference between the endings of each of the characters? I finished whit Geddoe and it took me like 76 hours so I'm not really feeling like replaying the last two chapters again but I'm curious about the other endings.
