Ever pull out old math skills from high school or junior high and realize just how much you truly appreciate mathematics?

I'm building a picnic table without instructions, and I'm over here doing trigonometry like a motherfucker.

So you know, If you want to have the 2x4 legs for your seats set so they're 15" high at a 70 degree angle, you need to cut your wood at about 16", and cut about 1.25" diagonals at the top and bottom of the legs.

Math. Fuck YEA!

I decided on a whim to get my BA in Mathematics after fulfilling the requirements for a minor while studying Computer Science.

I love math more and more every day. Now I'm all fancy with a BA and a BS.

Can't stand math. It's my achilles heel.

Math is all around us. Everything you see has to do with math and has a formula behind it. It's pretty mindblowing.
But yeah, better not to think about it all of the time.

I haven't touched a lick of calculus since university. There were 4 mandatory calc classes as part of my civil engineering degree, 2 of which were ridiculously advanced. Ive now been working for 3 years, and I haven't used any of it. Being a municipal engineer can basically be reduced to these courses: fluid mechanics, hydraulics and hydrology, materials science, concrete/asphalt design, and transportation. The other 95% of the stuff I had to take for my degree has been useless. Everything in my field relates back to sizing pipes, open channel flow, roadway geometrics, etc.

My math skills are pretty much limited now to fingers and toes. A friend who lurks here is big into math and numbers. Used to frequently find him reading books about math and numbers for fun. For fun!

My wife works at a place that does nothing but water resources. Her company parties are weird. It's like 30 people who really like levees.

Engineers are weird for the most part anyways (guilty as charged), but I can only imagine 30 who all do the same thing together at the same time.
