Hopefully this goes better than the Radiant Historia thread and I don't get owned with a shit looking game when pics come.

But new X360/PS3 action adventure game "Catherine"

Director is Hashino who directed SMT3 Nocturne, Persona 3/4, and I think DDS/Trauma Center but I gotta double check those.
Character designs by Soejima, the P3/P4 guy. :\
Music by Shoji Meguro, who does everything Megaten besides Devil Survivor and none of the non-megaten games like Trauma Center or EO (actually he did some tracks for Trauma Center, but wasn't the main composer)

So basically this is what Persona guys have been doing since P4. Working on the awesome American system called the Xbox 360 and PS3 too.

I haven't seen the scans, but Aeana says it's action adventure. Which is not what you call a visual novel.

Plus I might get owned on this, but I don't think you'd see that kind of talent working on a still pictures game. It would be especially pointless to do something like that when you have the X360/PS3 Ultimate Processing Power.

Honestly, I'm thinking it's like Maken X but more of a focus on adventure. They're likely going to try to make something that appeals to the west since it's on X360. Which means killing stuff.

It's probably as garbage as Rule of Rose. Persona 3 and 4 are utter trash too... not a great record to get hype too.

and yeah the pink wording says "BRAND NEW HD PROJECT BY THE PERSONA TEAM" so this is what they've been doing since P4/P3P.

I'm actually glad the SMT teams are doing something completely new for a change. Can't wait to actually see what this game is all about. It looks kinda Suda 51-ish to me from that scan.

And the main story bits are ADV, but the dream sequences are action.

I guess similar in a way to P3P where the story stuff is ADV and then the dungeons are rpg.

Doesn't look that embarrassing. They say they're trying to make something more adult like a dark steamy noir thriller weird, so along the lines of Lynch.

And I mean if there's anyone that can pull off a dark sexy adult thriller in Japan, it'd be the SMT guys.

Is Persona 3 a text game?

The game is about a guy who is getting seduced by a woman (text game) and when he goes to sleep every night he has crazy nightmares (3d action game). All the stuff that's 3d in those screens with environments and stuff are playable action game parts.

So I assume this is the "original work" and the "full blown project" is Persona 5. I wonder what the porting team has been doing since then, another port or prep work for 5?

Not only is Atlus finally moving on to the HD systems but it might mean that Persona 5 won't be fucked on the PSP or similar. Plus, we now know that Atlus won't be engaging in any of that PS3/360 exclusivity bullshit or the equally suicidal "lets ignore western markets!" approach.

They actually say in the interview in famitsu that P5 is on X360/PS3 (in a roundabout way). They say something close to "before we do our teams next big rpg on these HD systems we wanted to do an original title to get a feel for the systems". So P5 is pretty much confirmed PS3/X360. As is all future stuff from that team until the next gen.

The question is what about the "other" team that does stuff like SMT or Raidou. A lot of them did Strange Journey, and now they're doing Radiant Historia. So the question is will they go to the 3DS or also move to consoles after that. Guess it depends on how well P5 does on the HD systems.

I was justing playing that today and its pretty dang good. Moreover, the ADV (seems to be at least 1/3rd of the game if not more)sections are surprisingly solid, I'd bite in an instant at a more polished adventure game from Atlus, if they ever localized one (like Rule of Rose, which they published). I just hope they don't muck this up with too much lousy combat and filler fetch quests (like Rule of Rose, which they didn't make).

Also, I really dig the Atlus house style, writing, art, music, etc. But I just can't make it through any of their RPG's, yet at least. I've got 10 hours logged into Persona 3:FES and I dug it, but not so much that I won't be playing shitloads of other stuff before I even attempt to get back into that. Sorry JRPG's, I want to like you, its nothing personal, I even like turn based strategy. Its not you, its me.
