You don't. You need to have been grandfathered in.

And it really isn't unlimited. They cap it at 5gb.

it's when an old plan changes, the people who originally had it get to keep their rates whereas the people that are new to it get the new rates.

like, there is no way whatsoever for me to get unlimited data on AT&T because I'm a noob, but manabyte gets to keep his old plan - i.e., he's "grandfathered" in.

My old blackberry was on AT&T and had unlimited data, so when I got my i4 they rolled it over from my old plan.

I've been waiting for this moment since I got my phone.  And since I stopped using my 360 to stream Netflix.  Looks like I get to play WoW and watch shit on my phone.  YES.

Do any of you buttholes have any idea how many MB it is to stream a 2-hour movie via iPhone? I might do some tests near the end of my billing period but I'm not even close to it at this point.

If streaming Netflix is anything like streaming porn, then I'd say a two hour movie streamed over 3G is going to go through your 2GB allotment like whoa.

According to the Wired article they watched a movie and it took 400MB of data :O

There is some talk of them creating an offline mode where you can download a movie in advance though.

Thank god I'm grandfathered into this 'cause no way in hell would I agree to AT&T's new data plan.  This app is going to kill some bank accounts.

Of course you guys can just jailbreak the thing and download/stream anything you could possibly want.  That's what I do.

Might not matter how long you've been with the company. I had a 3G for a year. Turned it into insurance through Best Buy for the 3GS a few months ago.  Boom, no longer grandfathered in, even though the at&t rep GUARANTEED ME ON THE PHONE I would be.  :'(

Called them up, and they said there literally is no where in the system they can choose the option for unlimited. Why they couldn't just adjust my bill every month is beyond me.

For every 1 mg you go over the 2mg, it's an extra $10 a month, right? Something like that. Not that much if you just go over a little bit (within a gig), but a fuck ton if you go over a lot (a few gigs).

Edit: To clarify, our family had a Motorolla flip phone in 1993 through whatever at&t was back then. So we've been with them that long.

My understanding is that if you break the 2GB cap, they will just charge you $25 for another 2GB.
