Southern cooking is too general for a lot of people, because for black people soul food is a specific type of food with specific type of choices. Most white people's homes smell like they haven't done their laundry in a while.  Not like a gross overpowering stench, it just smells off and kinda dirty.  That or it's covered up obnoxiously by tons of Glade plug ins and it gives me a headache.  At least we don't smell like fish.  Fucking asians.

Lots of black people I know don't cook. Their mothers/aunts/grandmothers/etc all cook, while many people under 35 eat out way too fucking much. I eat out after a long day at work or school sometimes, but normally I'll cook something.

Or sometimes when they do cook, it's horribly unhealthy. A friend came over when I was making fried chicken, and I showed her how I was making it/recipe/etc. So now she makes it three days a week. Seriously smh come on.
