um.  getting both games on ps2 would have been more expensive than the eventual 40 bucks.  Besides, mass market consumers aren't going to go eBay.  A re-release gives these game more exposure at retail.

various things learned:

"heavy texture re-work"
Both games are in 3D
Ueda was supposedly unhappy with the performance on the PS2, was designed to be 30fps.  PS3 version will be 30fps.

spring 2011

for US/UK, both games are on one blu-ray.  Japan may be separate.  There are also achievements for both.

the version of Ico will be the European release that had a different ending (or something?)

the version of Ico will be the European release that had a different ending (or something?)

The European and Japanese versions had a 2-player coop mode (one person as Yorda, one as Ico) that was unlocked after beating the game. I don't think there was a different ending, though.

The European and Japanese versions had a 2-player coop mode (one person as Yorda, one as Ico) that was unlocked after beating the game. I don't think there was a different ending, though.

it also had minor castle layout changes, a few bug fixes, secret bonus weapons (lightsaber!), a watermelon, translated subtitles for all dialogue in the game (on replay) as well as the ability to turn filters on/off and adjust their intensity

I REALLY hope 2P co-op is unlocked from the start. don't make me beat it again on PS3 just so I can play it AGAIN again two player...

What kind of control does 2P have over Yorda?  Moving + jumping?  Or can she push stuff and fight too?

Just running and jumping. She has the same limitations as the AI controlled Yorda.

So hyped!  Shadow of the Colossus is going to be so awesome with a stable framerate.

One thing that I'm going to play around with next time around is the Time Attack mode.  Can find any YT videos now but there's tons of shortcuts to beating the Colossi.

I'll get it cause I never played Ico and I love SotC, but it isn't like they are next gen games with 360/PS3 level graphics now that could really benefit from hd. IMO its still the same games they are just both in one cd now.

I honestly can't tell if you're trolling or not.

what? no.  ICO still has great puzzles and controls pretty well.  No auto-platforming or puzzles designed for lobotomy patients like modern games.

The narrative is pretty cool too though.

For me Ico seemed like the reason games like Prince of Persia SoT and the Tomb Raider revival happened.  Probably.  Both those series felt like they built on the fluid platforming, puzzles, and controls of Ico.  That's probably bullshit because there were old Tomb Raider games too, but they were still making the stiff tank tomb raider games on the ps2.

SOTC's framerate seems to be the same as before but that's not too big of a deal for me.  IMO the framerate was really only a problem during the last battle when the game turned into a slideshow.

And I'm not exactly sure how well Ico will fare being bumped up into HD because I kind of liked it's blurry aesthetic - I thought it helped the dream-like atmosphere of the whole thing.

I'm totally down for this collection though.

Surprisingly nice box art for NA. I'm glad they're using the real Ico box art instead of the NA abomination too. SCEA redeemed.

Almost all of the games I'm excited for this fall are remakes and ports of games I've already played! woo

It's an ugly cover when compared to regular games, but I think it looks way better than the previous HD remaster collections.

The EU version of the game has a reversible cover that has SotC on one side and Ico on the other, covering the whole package. Hopefully the NA version has the same.
