Well, looks like J-Bore did the right thing by not shipping overseas! Due to the mail bomb thing a few weeks ago, we're no longer allowed to mail packages greater than 300g to the States. I'm going to assume that it's not a Japan-only thing? Bloody nuisance, looks like a lot of Americans are gonna be disappointed this Christmas!

The only reason I even know about it is because I have a friend who works at the post office here and they were complaining about how there was a huge rush to send packages to the States before the ban kicked in. I would have never known about it otherwise, there's like no coverage about it at all, except for a fairly low-key message on the JP Post's website (in pdf form, http://www.post.japanpost.jp/whats_new/2010/1112_02.html). Wouldn't surprise me if other countries were just as quiet about it.

Actually, after checking the website, it's actually a limit of 453g, let the good times roll!

At the beginning of November when Greece had several bombs sent through the mail, airmail was stopped in Greece for two days. No other major postal service in the world has ever announced an “indefinite” ban on airmail packages.

Since privatization the JPO has been the object of a political tug of war between those who want to entirely or partially end its privatization and those who support continued privatization. The management at top levels of the JPO has drawn censure across the political spectrum, with the problems of the Japan Post’s “Yu-pack” deliver system drawing particularly harsh criticism. Foreign users have complained about the proliferation of required documentation for mail and packages to and from foreign countries that did not previously exist and question their necessity. Banning all airmail packages over 453 grams to the US from November 17 will cause wide spread inconvenience and resentment, particularly among smaller business and individuals.

- Red Dead: I was able to pull up your GT through Cafe de Bore and saw you hadn't played this yet, but you had played some GTA 4 recently. Decided to give you the better of the two.

-Game #2 (yet to arrive): An open-world type game, which you seem to enjoy. This one isn't out on this side of the pond yet, so you get to take the bullet to see how it is.

- The Dresden books: I'd mentioned these a while back after you were reading the Joe Pitt casebooks. Much lighter fare, but a fun, quick read, the series has become one of my guilty pleasures.

-SoulPancake: Yeah, it seemed like a good catch-all book for general discussions on lots of random stuff, thought you might enjoy. Haven't had a chance to read this myself yet, so hopefully it fits the bill.

-Operation Mincemeat: Also on my "To read" list, I'd read a handful of really positive reviews on this book, so hopefully it's decent. Sounds pretty awesome.
