I have a couple of iPods. That would be the 160GB classic I use now and the 30GB classic it replaced.

You can use Songbird to sync your iDevices. Just need to install a plugin. If you go back to iTunes though it'll want you resync with that. Songbird also integrates with various stores - 7Digital and lastfm, among others.

Songbird is what iTunes should be, really. Flac support is awesome too. I don't use it for my library (that's all on PC), but it would definitely be my first choice if I was Mac-exclusive.

  • Bought a Nano in 04, gave it to my sister after the battery shitted out in a year.
  • Bought the first iPod Video that came out, regretted it after 3 days when it would crash every time I would use it if it ran off battery power. It was the single greatest waste of $300 in my life, until I bought a car that had a stereo "Made for iPod." Now I'm happy with it, finally, but it just sits in the glove compartment.
  • iPhone 3GS that works worlds better than the 3G I had to turn into insurance after a year. That's not saying much though, and give it another few months and I'm sure it'll shit out too.

Songbird has always run too slowly for me–and I realize that statement seems hypocritical as an iTunes user, but iTunes on my Macbook has never seemed slow for me.  So, meh.

Wouldn't that be the reason for your itunes experience?

I was of the thought that itunes sucked more on Windows to be honest.

I'm still trying to figure out why anyone would buy AppleTV instead of a MacMini.

Are you seriously considering installing MS software on your Mac? Apple products are designed to run EVEN SLOWER if you put MS stuff on them. The Steve has declared it an engineering mandate.

You're only saying that because Live Messenger on Windows is basically an OS-manufacturer sanctioned (well "created") Trojan Horse to get your eyeballs on whatever they want to host at MSN.com. If they tried to include that with your normal Mac user's install, no one would ever touch it.

...Then again, there are a lot of Mac users who buy it because it's "easier" than a Windows machine, and if they want to talk to their MSN friends, they'll assume they need the MSN software instead of any of the plethora of unified messaging options available on OS X.

I got the 8 gig ipod touch, have no desire to dip into anything else.  Then again I would like to get the new touch with the camera. And a faster one at that. Some things run pretty slow on the 8 gig.

ITT: Even Apple fanbois know to avoid AppleTV.

Update: I now own two of these damned things.

I quite like them, but as an appliance, it is crap. There are plenty of things solved by restarting the OS, but I don't ever seem to see my American friends' cable boxes, DVRs, net-enabled DVD players with YouTube and NetFlix running on them -- I never see them needing a reboot.

But the REAL reason I'm Thread Necromancing this back to life is this:
https://uxdesign.cc/a-critical-analysis-of-the-ios-10-lockscreen-experience-726ddfba3c1a#.wmrmi24ff

iOS 10's lock screen is just a trainwreck. This is a good analysis of why.

Let me re-evaluate my Apple products:

In use:

-Apple TV 3 (2015)- Gives me problems all the time with the remote not responding properly or apps not loading up and freezing, especially Hulu.  Frustrates me to the point that I am thinking I should just sell it and get a Roku.
-iPhone SE (2016)- My work phone.  Only gets used in on-call or emergency situations, so basically it just sits turned-off in my briefcase.

Not in use:

-MacBook (2008)- Currently missing a battery, HDD is wiped, and is sitting in a drawer.
-Apple TV 2 (2012?)- Sitting in the same drawer.
-Airport Express- Don't need it anymore.  I believe it's also in the same drawer.

Not mine:

-iPhone 6- My wife's current phone.  I wonder if I can get her to switch over to Android, like I did, next time.  :doge
