Was hoping to get some good DLC recommendations here.  I understand it's subjective to a point but it's pretty overwhelming looking at what's available and trying to decide what is worth the money.

I was thinking about going with XBLA games for the sale but recently decided the money would be better spent on DLC.  I could be persuaded to change my mind on this though, mainly for XBLA games that are playable on XBL I suppose, if there are any.

Anyway, here was some of the DLC I was looking at.

Alan Wake apparently has 2 'chapters' available, a lot of CAGers were buying this for the sale.

I also am heavily considering Mass Effect 2, there seems to be some good stuff available there.

Other games that I have that have DLC available are FallOut 3, Mass Effect, Super Street Fighter IV, Fight Night 4, and many others.

I haven't really paid much attention to DLC so hopefully I can get some help.

I got Borderlands on Steam with the DLC when it went on sale.

That's another issue with DLC, oftentimes it's better to wait for the GOTY edition of a game now.  Not only is it usually cheaper than $60, it contains all the DLC.

Early adopters are being ass-fucked this generation.  Ever feel like another crash is coming?

So much product dropping in price so quickly, why would anyone buy launch games anymore for the most part?

I haven't bought a launch game that didn't have a deal in I don't know how long.  Years.

Huh? I dont feel ass fucked. I got my money's worth from what I bought. Why starve myself from a great game just for an eventual bundle?

Game is still great and you could have had two of them.

Or three or four if you consider the price of DLC.

Of course for multiplayer games it's a little more important to get it while it's new, but most games I don't see an urgency to buy for full price.  Especially when I know they have planned DLC in the works.

Logically, at least in my situation (I have big backlogs) I think this, but the truth is I often enjoy games more when I buy them at launch, at least if they're something I'm looking forward to. It's some sort cathartic reaction I have to getting a new game at launch. If I wait, read about it, hear other peoples reactions then eventually get it it's never as satisfying.

Yeah, that idiom doesn't really hold for people who post about games on message boards.  It was more of a general statement.

Way off topic too, unfortunately.

I guess I'm more interested in 'should I get shitty Alan Wake DLC and Mass Effect 2 DLC or should I just get Shadow Complex and another XBLA game even though I'll get a jtag 360 at some point?'

Why do you care to buy any DLC? Those will just drop in price anyway.

Yeah I noticed that seemed to be the trend when looking at DLC for older games like Halo 3 and Mass Effect.

I'll probably just scrap the DLC idea and go get some actual good games.

So...Shadow Complex and something else.  Already have Rez HD.  Was thinking about Pac Man CE but then the sequel comes out soon, might as well wait for that.

Already have Lumines, Geo Wars 1 and 2.

Maybe Lingo.

Did you buy anything for the sale Demi?  Or do you normally drop 2400 pts in one month?

I bought:

Gears 2 All Fronts (400)
Magna Carta 2 Bonus Pack (400)
Sonic & Knuckles (240)
Alan Wake The Writer (560)
Borderlands Claptrap Revolution (800)

= 2400

I dont buy DLC normally at all. But I got over 5000+ points for my birthday. So I figured why not. And picked up stuff I was gonna buy anyway (Alan Wake, Borderlands) - and used the rest on stuff I wouldnt have gave a second glance (Gears 2, Sonic & Knuckles, Magna Carta 2)

The DLC for Ninja Gaiden 2 is amazing if you have that. A lot of the standard missions it comes with kinda suck, but the weapon survival missions are basically the best thing in any action game ever.
The All Fronts pack for Gears 2 is a pretty good deal if you still care about Gears.
Minerva's Den for BioShock 2 is supposed to be pretty good, but I've never played it.
There's a bunch of alternate costumes you can buy for (S)SF4. Those are pretty cool.
The Fallout 3 DLC is pretty decent for the most part, but you can just rent the GotY disc, install the DLC, and send it back.

You're probably better off buying some XBLA games. There's a ton of great ones like Trials HD, Bionic Commando, Mega Man, Geometry Wars, OutRun 2, Afterburner, Ikaruga, etc.

Also, I agree about all these GotY/Platinum editions coming with all of that overpriced DLC for free. From now on, I'll just be waiting for the complete version of any game that's sure to get a bunch of DLC, with some rare exceptions.

So far I've got the new Alan Wake DLC, the GoW2 All Fronts pack, and I'm probably going to buy Super Meat Boy this Wednesday. Not sure what else to get. I'll probably just buy the Valkenhayn DLC for BlazBlue CS.

Pac Man CE is fun no matter what the sequel steps up to offer, as is Geometry Wars 2. They're both bargains.

If you're looking at DLC for a game which has a couple pieces, 400 a pop isn't horrible. But in the case of The Force Unleashed, it doesn't make any sense to buy the numerous discounted DLC packs when the GOTY version is super cheap and includes all of them.

Pretty sure the "game add-ons" includes Rock Band/Guitar Hero songs, song packs, albums, though the "unlock key" for Rock Band 1 songs is not DLC - it's an in-game purchase only, requiring the RB1 disc to be inserted, etc.

Yeah, I've wanted Pac Man CE for awhile.  Someone on CAG said that the sequel would include all of the stuff from the original, not sure if that's true or confirmed though.

And yeah, Rock Band songs do count in the sale, while 'unlock codes' do not.

Yeah, most of the missions in NGB are far superior. But NGB does not have the godlike combat system of NG2, nor does it have infinite survival missions. The weapon survivals in NG2 focus on everything good about the game. It's a pure test of skill.

They even managed to turn the broken karma system into something decent for the survival missions. :bow

So, it looks like XBLA had a big summer sale and others are anticipating a christmas sale (ala steam, makes sense.)

So the best use of my 'cash' I guess is to grab Super Meat Boy while it's at 800, grab Shadow Complex (even though it's at full price) and let my gf pick out a game (probably Frogger for 400 pts.)

That gets me to 2400 with two games that aren't likely to go on sale again soon.

Shadow Complex was at 560 during the Summer Sale, the other game I was looking at was Castle Crashers.  That was at 800 during the Summer Sale.

I wonder if CC will be cheaper during the Xmas sale or if SC will continue to get the deal.  Who decides the price, the publisher I assume?

Not all of us are as rich as you demi.  I'm averse towards paying full price for shit that's been out for a couple of years.  For it being virtual bits they are lucky I pay for it at all.

Think I'll grab Super Meat Boy, Castlevania Sotn, and Braid.  Will wait for xmas to hopefully grab Shadow Complex and Castle Crashers.

It's gonna be a J-style adventure game (think Portopia, Princess Tomato in the Salad Kingdom, Shadowgate, etc), with shitty handdrawn backgrounds by me :P

Next game will be 2D sprite goodness, depending on how this first experiment goes.
