seems to be over,in short

- time travelers is made by the same guy who did 428 in case it matters,it's for 3DS
- fantasy life is developed by brownie brown and looks animal crossing making it looks like the most ill-conceived game ever, too bad because uematsu is doing the music,it's for 3DS
- there is a layton X Phoenix wright game,my brain doesn't know if going for "YAY PHOENIX WRIGHT" or "BOOHHH DUMB CROSSOVER!",it's for 3DS

in short level 5 is a nintendo whore

I'm totally weeabooing over the Phoenix Wright / Layton game. I know it says VS. but it shows them working together. Either way that is so cool.

I dunno how I feel about this.

I like Phoenix Wright as a character but the games are kind of boring
I like Layton but it can be iffy at times

I hope PW is a positive addition and doesn't make Layton worse.

Should I play Apollo Justice?  I keep putting the cart in and playing like 5 mins and then I'm like "oh yeah, PW has way too much talking"

Oh.  Well that would explain all the negative talk I hear about Apollo and Edgar games.  I knew he left, but I thought it was after Apollo.  Dunno.

So I'm guessing this will be a layton style adventure but you get evidence/clues from solving puzzles and then go to trial and do it like PW.  Could be good I guess.  Layton could use a little more variety than puzzle story puzzle story puzzle story.

i like both series but at the same time i'm not sure they clash well... i mean when a murder happens in phoenix wright,it's because someone struck the victim to the head with a statue and when a murder happens in layton,it's because the victim was a robot and he run out of oil and the body vanished because yadda yadda yadda stupid plot power, the plot also seems more suited to layton than phoenix wright... maybe they should have done 2 games like they did for capcom vs snk and how they are doing with street fighter vs tekken

plus i'm pissed it's on 3DS,i can't see such a title requiring more process power (heck does this mean this will be the first phoenix wright game featuring 3D model?) there are like 7 gazillion of DS users but 0 3DS user yet just because they are so sure that everyone will bite they put it on 3DS anyway, the producer said "think of it like one of those special movies" but it's like they decided to make it a blu-ray exclusive for no other apparent reason than pushing the blu-ray format

well at least this isn't yet another half-assed port so i guess that's an improvement over the 3DS library

spoiler (click to show/hide)
i'm predicting at least 2 post going "lol magus is poor"

I just realized, that's probably the game Keiji Inafune was talking about when he said they were working with Level 5 on something. Meh, disappointing.

I love PW, but I couldn't get pass the first mission in Apollo Justice either. I kept falling asleep. Didn't bother attempting to play the Edgeworth games either. I have high hopes for this game since the original creator is involved.

I thought you guys didn't like Layton games? I remember people here saying that it was filled with elementary school riddles and puzzles so I never even bothered to try one.

Layton games are cool:
+Great art
+Great music
+lol story that is enjoyable but by the end it's wtf stupid
+tons of puzzles

The puzzles are totally hit or miss.  Some are awesome and challenging but you figure them out.  Others make no goddamn sense.  But there's so many (like 150 puzzles+) in each game, you get enough enjoyable ones.

But like demi, I mainly just treat it as a graphic novel and enjoy the art/music/plot.

You should give the first game a shot.

i personaly don't understand why people don't like apollo, for me it was the same game as ever,if anything i appreciate the fact that they had the balls to throw away their loved estabilished character for the sake of not doing the same thing over and over

as for layton

what bebpo said is pretty much right tough i would like to add that when they did it the first time it was an original concept so it had that going for it,now this would be like the sixth layton game and they already used like 1000 puzzle for the previous games so it just doesn't feel as fresh especialy since they repeat some puzzle concept

plus they always put a sliding block puzzle somewhere, god i hate them!

Yeah, that's why I said Beezy should try the first game :P  I don't think Layton games are getting worse, but since the puzzles are all kind of the same, as each game goes by it gets more stale.

I play Layton about once a year and when I first start each game I go "hey, Layton is so much fun.  I can't believe I waited this long to play it!" but by the end it becomes "I AM SO SICK OF PUZZLES.  I'M NOT TOUCHING LAYTON FOR ANOTHER YEAR"  :lol

Puzzle Agent was a Layton ripoff and had maybe 20 puzzles total.  While that's too short for a full priced game, 150+ is too many!  I think if Layton spent more time on the quality of puzzles instead of the quantity it'd be better.  Maybe 60-80 puzzles for a game sounds good.

Not happening ever.

Dark Cloud is Sony and L5 is done with working for other people.  All their games from this point out are gonna be self-published.  The reason they're all 3DS stuff is because they can't afford sinking their own money into a PS3/X360 game and then having it bomb and they go out of business.

I tried playing the first Layton game and was bored out of my mind.  I literally fell asleep playing it, and this was when my power went out and it was supposed to be the thing keeping me entertained.  Everything about it screams ambien to me, but people are gaga for the series, so whatever.

I haven't played Apollo Justice.  After seeing the response in this thread, I'm excited to!

Yeah, the quest system is pretty dumb, reminds me of a lame MMORPG or something with is "get 10 of so and so item". I'm just about done with DQ9 (up to the final final battle), it's a good game but faaaar from my favorite in the series.
