The Warriors > Bully
Well, it was a better brawler, no mistake. Then again, it was clearly just a brawler.
You're right, but I'm talking as a game. I felt it was the most underrated R* game of last gen, and I'm amazed that Rockstar didn't use it as a premise for GTA4. I mean, the whole "npc's have to call the cops before the cops arrive" thing was novel, and it left for a lot of gameplay opportunities, leaves you the chance to bust their heads open before they dial 911. And even when the cops do arrive, if you play your cards right you can avoid detection by hiding in the shadows. The moveset, the way you got new moves, the variety, the atmosphere, the music, the dialogue... Amazing game. Unlike others, I was never too impressed by Bully. I thought it was mostly boring.
San Andreas was THE game of last gen. GTAIII may have been the catalyst and Vice City may have had the soundtrack, but San Andreas is infinitely better than either of the the two without a doubt. And it's still the only one of the three that's still playable today. GTAIII and VC feel absolutely fucking distinguished mentally-challenged now....I don't know why those controls didn't bother me back then.
Play on pc. Controls are fine. Well, except for driving.
San Andreas is the only ps2 GTA (well, not count LCS and VCS, which are great too) I've never sucessfully replayed. I can replay GTA3 and pull off one heck of a speed run, completing it in only 5 hours, I played the shit out of that game and can still play the shit out of that game today. Vice City is objectively better however, due to the better missions and variety. Although it's not my favorite (it's my second favortie), Vice City is objectively the best Grand Theft Auto, particularly on pc.
San Andreas was what I considered the top dog..when it came out. But replaying it is torture. It's too big, locations are too far apart, playing the taxi, ambulance, or cop R3 missions are torture because everything is fucking five minutes away, which loses the arcade-y feel that GTA is known for. The car physics are trash and most cars just aren't too fun to drive. The characters are ridiculous, the missions even more ridiculous. The game has a lot of great ideas, but I don't think it has aged well at all; it feels like a plethora of ideas not executed well rather than a lot of great ones. Still, it's a classic in the pages of history, well deserved in fact.
