I really liked it, but it's middle tier Metroid for sure.

I don't think it is all that bad, it just doesn't have any redeemable qualities to it.  Actually, you will be a better person for never experiencing the unskippable cutscenes this game has.  Metroid Other M was my Vietnam.

Because the cutscenes are unskippable and offensively awful? I don't normally care about story in video games either as long as I'm not forced to watch as it unfolds in horror.

That and the entire game just reeks of "meh".

Metroid Other M is a rare flower, like Lords of Shadow.  I expected it to suck.  I expected it to be bad.  But it was worse than I imagined.  I mean, I don't like the Prime games all that much, but I can see the quality in them.  Hunters is just Quake with Metroid skins, but taken as it is, it's pretty good.  But Other M is the first actually lame Metroid game.  Too bad.  The Wii seems to be able to ruin anything if it tries.

Did  you ever get around to Corruption?  It railroads you with an illusion of non-linearity, and there is some lame voicework, but the pacing is good and its still good for a metroid itch. Fantastic art direction in the later worlds too.
