Anyone getting fooled into buying GT5?
« on: November 12, 2010, 03:58:37 PM »
I'm trying not to buy it.  Might slip.  But I know it'll be just as boring as GT5P & Forza 3 and with only 20 locations (a ton of them visually dull real world race tracks like all those boring looking Forza real life race tracks with nothing but grass and dirt and gym bleachers) you'll be racing the same tracks OVER AND OVER AND OVER until you want to vomit.  Only 3 rally locations :(  Only a few tracks with actual real-time weather changes and day/night  :-\

Where is PGR5; PGR4 is still greatest racer this gen!  Quebec :bow Macau :bow
Bizarre rip  :'(

I kinda want to buy it even though I don't like sims. I do enjoy Forza every now and then, but like 80% of the reason I bought those games is so I can download sweet Evangelion cars off the storefront.

I myself would feel more tempted if someone could list up WHAT EXACTLY IS IN THE GAME, what cars, what tracks, what kind of weather, etc

I don't have Aspergers so collecting cars and driving in circles isn't appealing.  I'll wait for the superior Trackmania 2.

There was a full car list/track list on gaf earlier.  But that thread moves so fast I'm too lazy to find it.

I will probably buy it at some point. I got drunk around the time of GT5P and bought the wheel...need some justification to bring it out of the closet. Tried playing arcade-style racers with it and it was turrible.

I want NFS before I get GT5...definitely waiting for black friday on that front though...

Every time I see a gif or video of the rain racing, I consider it; the game is pretty pretty looking. Then I remember that looking out my windows when it rains is more entertaining.

I'll pick it up eventually.  I still regret buying Forza 3, and Forza 2, and Gran Turismo 5 prologue.

There are only 2 racers worth buying: Mario Kart for the best arcade experience, Gran Turismo for the best sim experience.

One down, one to go.

Mario Kart is not an arcade racer. And Sega All-Stars Racing is better than every Mario Kart except for DS and SNES.

Mario Kart is an arcade racer, Gran Turismo is a sim racer. Both games feature karts, hence the reason why the former wasn't labeled a kart racer.

The only answer where Mario Kart is acceptable is "racing game I play with my local friends while drinking".

Because SP Mario Kart is an awful awful racer these days.

It's a testament to how abysmal Forza/GT are that something as stale as Mario Kart is game of the forever in comparison.

Forza is failsauce, don't put it next to the greatness that is Gran Turismo.

Kind of reminds me of GT PSP where it seemed like Sony just dumped it and ran away from it.

I can't believe they'd do this to a $80+ million title but its Sony, so it isn't that surprising.

The game does look ridiculously good, especially with the weather effects.  Comparing visuals alone, it makes Forza cars look like micromachines.  Too bad about the whole gameplay thing.

PGR4 had great looking cars, great style, weather, and was really fun to play!  Bizarre :bow2

PGR5 is going to kick ass...

I'd really like to see if they've made any upgrades to the way you can tune your car.  Since I've gotten nerdier about cars, it would be really awesome if they got more in depth instead of having generic staged upgrades for certain components.  Plus it's gorgeous.  And hopefully the physics system isn't totally crap in this GT.

Stolen from a guy at QT3

Quote
- Full car and track lists are now available. Notably missing are Porsche (just RUF) and Koenigsegg, the Seattle track, and the Veyron isn't a premium model.
- Only certain tracks have day/night and wet modes.
- Optional 10GB hard drive install that takes about 40 minutes.
- The available used car dealerships change based on the in-game day, kind of like GT PSP.
- Wheels can't be changed on standard cars.
- You win or unlock 'paint items' in order to be able to respray cars in different colours.
- Narrowness of the cockpit view is adjustable.
- The damage model seems to have been toned down a lot from previous showings. Stuff gets bent, but it looks more like it's melting than scratched up or broken, and it doesn't seem to affect performance as much.
- The tire smoke effects are pretty impressive; it can generate a cloud that drifts along and lingers for a bit before blowing away.

6 years for a 40minute install :bow2
