If the game really is as bad as people say I hope Sony does something about PD even if this meets their sales expectations, this game will definitely hurt the brand not to mention all the money that was spend in a product that ended up not meeting the standard, and then people wonders why publishers just don't let developers do whatever they want and just sign the checks  :-\

Fixed.

I do lament GT5 being trash, however, I was hoping for a sequel to Tourist Trophy. But now I'm not so sure I want one.

The game's graphics aren't really constant. Sometimes it looks like the best game ever, and sometimes it looks like Forza aka average.
But the handling is superior. No sim racer has better gameplay.

And the loading can be annoying at times. I consumed a whole meal during the installation, and the loading still sucks.

I can understand the lower scores. But this game's still very good. There's so much stuff to do.

Really? Everyone is saying Forza still has better handling; especially with the tire physics. Then again, one can't assume that a Sfag ever even played Forza 3.

I'm not sure if you've played Forza before, the game has some lengthy load times as well.

SCEE has confirmed to NowGamer that more damage features are set for Gran Turismo 5 'at a later date'

There has been some confusion over the damage modelling in the game with physical deformation definitely included, but question marks over the touted mechanical damage.

GT5 producer Kazunori Yamauchi responded to a tweet on Tuesday from a reviewer at Level 17 in the game asking whether mechanical damage was in fact included. "It will appear later," Yamauchi wrote, but still it wasn't clear if the developer meant later in the game or at a later date via an update.

"We hope to introduce even more damage features"

We can now confirm that Sony intends to add new features to Gran Turismo 5 "at a later". An SCEE representative told NowGamer this evening:

"We hope to introduce even more damage features at a later date and will provide an update on this as soon as we can."

This cannot be real.

Wait, you can't restart a race immediately after you finish it :wtf
It apparently takes you back to main menu after you complete a race.  I don't know what's up with Japanese developers and intuitive game UI or the lack thereof.

From my first race on GT4 track with Premium Civic

The standard cars are so dumb.  On their own they're fine, but because your opponents are a random mix of premium and standard, you'll pull up behind two cars while driving and it looks like this:

anyhow game sucks, I got fooled again shame on me

this was the first and likely last time I power the game on and will go install Flatout racing to make up for it.  GT5 is SO BORING.  And it's been made in a vacuum where Forza and American/European developed racers don't exist.  So many dumb design decisions.  The graphics look great and are the least of GT5's problems.  Handling is great, but the lack of damage is ridiculous.  The AI is fuckstupid and knocks you around and it's basically bumper cars.  And you hit a wall and bounce right off.  Even the sound effect is the worst THUD ever when you contact anything and get no damage.  The career progression is boring.  I tried a snow rally race and compared to the exciting Rally of Dirt 2 it's a joke, especially with the lack of damage.  No rewind, no replay races, no photo mode during race and

LOADING
LOADING
LOADING
for every single action even after a 10gig install. (forza3 had stupid loading like that too, which is why I played it for 2 days and then never again)

Awful stuff.  5/10.  Gonna tell myself I won't buy Forza 4, GT6 but I know I still will :(  I hate these games.

Not really, GT3/4 were already getting boring.  This just takes it to another level with even more loading and lack of expected features.

I'm glad GT5 exists though.  Looking at other people's photo mode pictures will be far more entertaining than ever playing the game itself.
PS. photomode is a pain in the ass to use compared to PGR/Forza.  Seriously, Kaz needs some fucking humbling so he actually takes notice of his competition in the west for once.

Have you played Forza Motorsport 3?

"I was watching the guys at our company trying it out in the office. I tried it a little bit. It's very similar in a lot of aspects to Gran Turismo, but some basic parts of the game are very different from Gran Turismo. It's a little bit different from a simulator and you can feel that when you drive it."

Have barely followed this game since I don't own a playstation 3. But I watched the giant bomb live thread they had today. It looked like a good game but perhaps all the release time and expectations were too great since it took so long. Of course the menu stuff and general interface stuff looked like garbage so that might be part of the problem also.

What's become tiresome both on GAF and occasionally over here is how this and Forza have become some sort of proxy war for consoles. It's a sim racer. If these weren't console exclusives for the most part nobody on messageboards would be interested in either game. Just like all the other simulation style videogames that regularly get ignored.

i disagree partly - it IS a proxy war for sure though. If you like Forza , you should like GT and vice versa. There's somethings better on one than the other, but at the end of the day you are either a racing sim fan or you aren't - anyone saying either of these game is "Sh!t" whilst the other is "ZOMG amazing!" is taking out of their big cavernous ar$es.

Strongly disagree. The more of a sim fan you are, the more the things a game gets wrong will drive you crazy. Hence, my rants about driving a cardboard box-cum-dodgem car in GT. I want to like it, and I keep buying the games; I just don't like playing them.

The thing that bugs me the most about photo mode (since even if I'm not big on sim racers, I love take virtual photography and taking photos is almost fun enough to support a game) is this:

so unlike normal games, you can't just pause during a race and go into photo mode.  You have to finish the race, then start a replay then pause it and go into photo mode.
...ok that's dumb but I can live with that.

But unless I'm missing something you can't fast forward or rewind replays like EVERY OTHER RACING GAME ON THE PLANET.  So if you want to take a photo of a specific spot you have to:
1. finish the race
2. watch the replay all the way up to that spot
3. try not to miss it and if you decide you wanted to take the photo sooner, rewatch the whole replay to that point again

This makes taking pictures of specific things a huge pain in the ass.  So basically normal racer = take cool picture when interesting things happen, GT5 = try to take cool picture out of random spots during the race that you pick out watching the replay (preferably towards the start of the race).

So dumb.  And then like Forza3, everytime you do snap a picture you have wait for it to render which is annoying. :\

the rally stuff is absolutely brilliant for a start.

I was excited about the Rally courses going in, but the few I tried felt soulless compared to Sega Rally Revo or Dirt.  The cars weren't sliding around like crazy as I'd expect them to be, and I was just bumping off of things without losing much momentum.  It felt too much like a normal track race than the slippery rough feel I get from those rally games.

Yeah, the rally stuff is good. Or at least it was back in the day when we only had a few decent options in that realm.

DC - The sim world is like hi-fi buffs, or wine freaks or any other group of manic obsessives. A hi-fi buff is quite capable of taking a massive shit on a $50,000 audio rig because it doesn't suit their preferences. A casual fan of music is going to think anything in that price range is amazing.

Once you spend a few hours tweaking tire pressure in Forza 3 and noticing the difference on the track, the lack of it in GT will drive you crazy and make you never want to play GT.

Basically DC, you are just not hardcore like me. Too casual to swim in this pool :patel

It's a 'war' because no matter how quickly Turn10 excretes Forza games, the franchise will never replace Gran Turismo as the premium console racing game. The Xbox faithful know this thus the bitter tears.

In a way, it's also why people still dislike the Wii. No matter how many peripherals and Oprah pay-offs, the Wii will never be outsold and will forever be recognized as the console that demolished both 360 and Ps3.

The King will always be a target.
