Why would mgs4 crush ps3 fanboys spirits? everyone loved that game except bitter xbots and himumu not to mention that its still better than the entire catalog of the 360.

One funny little bit I've noticed is that for hardcore Sony fanboys sales never mattered this gen. It was all about the reviews.

But now with GT 5 its all about the sales again.

It's almost as if they are making this shit up as they go along.

I like how sales only matter to Sony fans when it's in their favor.

... actually, maybe the gameplay wouldn't be -that- unacceptable in 2006? So it might backfire somewhat. Perhaps we could send Forza 3 back with all the logos and ingame identifiers hidden so they -think- it's GT5. Only way a Sony fan would praise it - but that's because they are dumdum.

Not sure what mattered more then, graphics or gameplay...probably graphics

Likely scenario...
$600 PS3--PS2 cars,PS2 tracks,jaggies,blocky shadows,tearing,toy cars...wtf,wtf,wtf

but but but
-game was rushed you dumbass
-Cell is unused
-wait for GT6
-GT6 will use full PS3 potential
-blu ray
-Cell
-Home
Basically it would be "wait for GT6" instead of GT5

This is the dumbest thread in the history of dumb threads.

F3 fanboys are going to always pretend F3 is a better game. GT5 Fanboys will know they have the better game. Isn't it simple? GT5's photomode/in game/features/Physics trump Forza. Forza trumps GT when it comes to painting liveries & fantasy modifications with 8 cars in a race. GT will always sell more. Forza will rate higher with a majority folks that start off their review: "Need for Speed Shift..." I mean what is the point of this thread at this point? If you have a choice, its clear GT5 is a better car sim, as reviews do seem to all agree on. And thats whats been advertised in GT. Sales speak for a genre where there are only really 2 competitors. No one showed up for F3 besides a handful of people who couldn't get GT. Spec to Spec, theres no contest. Glitch Vs Glitch, or ugly texture vs ugly texture? This is the silliest thing on earth at this point.

LOL @ the model car texture. WHAT the hell is that about? If the best features of GT5 didn't make up for everything else known to console sim worlds, I'd question PD's work ethic as far as their "perfectionist" tag. However its hard to find only mistakes and use that as the bar..
Again pointless because F3 fanboys of course will pretend that they bought GT5 just for close up photographs of a flipped over car, and not the simulation aspect of a car sim. Are you guys going to start arguing fonts next?

And Forza/Turn10 claimed the replay stills were in game. Which is why people used those shots vs GT5p shots, now all of a sudden theres a clear acknowledgment that Forza3 upgrades the models severely for menu/replay? Yet GT5 only does for photomode? How many times can F3 just not stack up to GT5, and why is it still being debated? Turn10's direction for F3 wasn't widening the genre, or features that the community wanted. It was to get a driving game out as fast as possible so that Microsoft could say they have one on their Xbox360. Its been 3 releases yet no significant upgrades from one to another outside of the original inclusion of decal swapping damage & livery editor. Theres no reason it couldn't do weather/night/pitcrews/rally or any of that. It was just something that wasn't even in the vision for the past 3 games.

Blah, continue to argue. But amazingly silly thread. Its summed up with "LOL LOok at this GT5 mistake! Its on par with Turn10's final product!"

wow

This is the truth.  You can definitely separate the people who are just having a laugh because of the meltdowns, and the genuine XBots who have so much invested in Forza.  I am just surprised we have so many of the latter here.

eh? we have one! Maxy.

I don't like racing games, played only like few minutes of Forza  games...racing games could go extinct and I wouldn't even notice it

I like Sim Racers. I like sim sports games. I've liked GT in the past when I've owned Sony systems and I certainly liked Forza 3 on the 360.

What annoyed me about this thread as I mentioned earlier are two things.

A.) People pretending they are into sim racers when they really aren't. Let's face it most people on here or on GAF aren't into hardcore sim anything. Not sports. Not shooters. And not racing games. Which is why there aren't any Arma, or Madden, or PC racing threads to be found.
B.) Sony Fans who suddenly have to step into line and support their console into the war with the 360. Almost none of the Sony fans in the thread here even talked about the game. Or how they were progressing. Or what they liked or didn't like. All they talked about was Forza 3, sales, or if it was Triple A, it was posting photos from photomode. I bet if I could check their stats they've barely played the game based on how little they actually talked about the actual game.

So sim games are cool. So are sim racers. They aren't for everybody though just like all sim games. If the people who were actually into these games only posted, this thread would be tiny and probably off the front page. The only reason the thread blew up was because of fanboy shit. And that's why it will probably stay on the front page.

Don't get the mentality that if you like sim racers, you must hate arcade racers, and by extension, hate 'fun'. Jesus, GT is one of the best-selling games of ANY kind, EVER. To pretend that it's some marginal thing for freaks is just weird. I play the games because *I* think they're fun, and it doesn't diminish my enjoyment of Burnout etc one whit.

I think people are exaggerating for effect.  'Net warz are all about black and white and false choices.

Although I burned myself out on GT with GT3.  I just got tired of racing in the same event 12 times just to get a minor suspension upgrade.

It'd be interesting to see how far most GT purchasers progress.  Do they race around a few times and then stop or do they go as far as they can get.  After a while, I was extremely annoyed that I had to spend an hour or two to get a new useful car.  I had some fun at first but it just got grating after a while.

Forza 3 wasn't anywhere near as bad in terms of the grinding but the track designs were ass.

PGR4 can do a lot of that!

I was actually playing Forza 3 a bit last night.  As much as I like to shit on these 'sim' console racers, I do enjoy just picking a random car and driving around a track.  I never play the career modes or whatnot in these games, but just driving around a track, it is pretty relaxing.  Also, Forza 3 looks worse than I remember it looking.  I was playing PGR4 the other day and that definitely looks a lot nicer.  Just judging from videos, GT5 can look really nice, but there are so many inconsistencies with the shadows and standard cars and things like that.  I'll still probably buy it one day if its cheap...or they make GT5 Epilogue that fixes the problems.

Linkzg - Forza 3 is 60fps, PGR 4 is 30fps. It damn well better look a lot nicer (although it does, no doubt about that <3 PGR).

I thought Forza's career mode was repetitive but maybe I'm just old - I *need* to race those tracks a gazillion times before I feel competent at them.

the shadows are hilariously bad--and i'm bummed out about that--but that's my only complaint, really, when it comes to the visuals; overall, it's a great looking game, imo. the standard cars look awful when in photomode, but during a race, it's not really that noticable. when you're up close, though, you can really tell that you're looking at a standard car. but that also depends on the car itself--some can look quite blocky/low-res while others look pretty good, actually.

bud's always been one of the racer guys on the forum, so if he says the racing's real good at times, it probably is.

I can't really comment much on GT5.  The day I got it I played for 2-3 hours and took the disc out and shelved it.  Deleted the install today to make some room for other stuff, so I won't be playing it again until some of the patches have come through the woodwork.  What I can comment on is bud is at least right that as much as everyone in the comparison threads shout standard cars standard cars, when you're actually driving around the track you don't really notice unless you are fender bending bumping them up close.  It's only in replays and photo mode that you notice they look terrible.

And yeah PGR is amazing.  Bizarre is <3  I've been playing Blur and it's just so awesome.  Blur has TWENTY CARS per race.  20 cars + weapons = INSANITY.  omggg.  Great game and the tracks look pretty decent too.

Not that big of step down from PGR4.

I wonder if anybody who exclusively owns a PS3 for whatever reason is aware of how bad the update process is on that system compared to 360. Or the mandatory installs. Or the slew of other problems that Sony felt were worth introducing for no real reason that are missing from its competitors.

I know going from 360 to PS3 for the short time I did was fucking impossible. I had to force myself to play MGS4 till the end through the 20 minute installs. When I remembered DMC4 required an install from the outset I shut the system off in disgust.

Ok -- user-selectable damage levels have been implemented!

Tried racing online. As soon as it started the screen went black for everyone and we all just sat there talking about how we couldn't see anything. Had to turn off the PS3 to quit. What a waste of time. SMH at this game.

The most frustrating thing is that there is literally NO community management for GT5. With Forza, I know that if people bitch loud enough Che is going to see it and pass it along to the team, who will acknowledge the situation and assess whether or not it can/should be fixed. With GT5 you have a million people screaming and zero response from PD aside from "Please enjoy! We are working very hard!"

For chrissakes, the official Sony blog announces the patches but HAS NO IDEA WHAT THEY CONTAIN.

A few more questions from Yamauchi's Twitter:

Q1. Can we have bikes in GT5?
A. It's wouldn't be difficult to do technologically speaking, if there's a very strong demand, we could consider it maybe.

Q2. Can we have time control (fast-forward and rewind) in replay mode, it would be easier to take pictures this way?
A. I think so too.

Q3. How do you play GT5?
A. I use DFGT and controller (but I switched to analog stick)

Someone also seemed angry about the cars with the texture under the chassis from a miniature car. Yamauchi said something about old models that were created with the help from people at Autoart (a miniature car company I guess?)

What's sad is Kaz answers his questions in a way that makes it sound like he agrees with the community and sees the problems but nothing about if he'll actually do anything about them

"a working game?  Oh yeah, that would be nice to have"

h_echizenya: Using toy cars as reference isn't an unusual thing anyways. Though it would be hilarious if you left it there on purpose (referring to some cars' underside being modeled from toy cars. This issue caused an explosion of complaints in Japan)

Kaz: It's hilarious, but but they'll be gone in the next update. It's rather embarrassing.
