Seems like such a low priority thing to bother fixing.  How often are you looking at the BOTTOM of your car in a race?

Just seems nitpicky to complain about when there are dozens of real problems in the game that need fixing.

game got a 9/9/9/10 in famitsu, even with all that check money 3 of them only had the guts to give it a 9.

Also 9/8/9/9 for everyone's favorite Castlevania LoS

WTF, I haven't been following GT5 news so this caught me completely by surprise.

:rofl

Despite my enmity against Sfags, this is actually very disappointing. Since my Fanatec Porsche wheel is a 1st gen that only works with PC and PS3, I was really looking forward to playing GT5 but I'm gonna pass now.

last gen design + inconsistent visuals + shaky framerate + frequent tearing=  :-X

I can't believe dark10x is still trying to put a positive spin on it despite him supposedly being a graphics whore.  Disgusting sfag.

Probably.  Although the crap assets would look even worse in high res, at least the performance would be smoother and more consistent.

I'm currently playing Hot Pursuit on my PC, with a 360 pad and the 60 fps framerate makes it so much funner to play than the console versions.

"Early next year", you'll be able to monitor a Gran Turismo 5 race from your PC, and even issue basic commands such as 'enter the pits' or 'overtake'.

Your PS3 game will still need to be running, however, and you can control it with a limited list of commands through a PC web browser

BTW I was playing supercars on the rainy Special Stage and oh my god did it look like shit on a plate. Whenever water trails appear from the backs of the cars, it does some bizarro alpha-channel resolution thing where the cars' outlines look like they're being rendered at 320x200 or something. Everything in front of me was a mess of giant ugly pixels.

More cars in the Gran Turismo 5 garage are to be given the premium treatment, according to creator Kazunori Yamauchi - which means they'll soon be more detailed and allow an interior view.

Of that garage, 811 of the 1031 vehicles are only available in standard form.

Yamauchi, talking to Famitsu magazine (read by Andriasang), didn't say how many would be updated, but clearly he has a mountain of material to work with. He also didn't give a timeframe for the update.

Yeah I think it's pretty obvious by now they shipped a beta (alpha?).  Game needed another year, but after 5-6 years or whatever I don't think they had a choice.

You live in Japan though, so you should go down to Polyphony and get Kaz fired and then moonlight as head of the GT team in your spare time :)

Finally got a chance to play some proper GT5 this weekend, with a G25 and a playseat. Session wasn't all too long though, so my impressions are limited

Graphics/framerate is actually worse than I thought, I expected framerate dips but not the CONSTANT framedrops I experienced in pretty much all my races. And holy shit, the tearing is pretty jarring when in cockpit mode. It's kind of weird how this was acceptable at Polyphony after the smoothness of GT3 and GT4. The lighting is mostly nice, but there is some overuse of blooming like in Forza3 in some places that I didn't expect.

Handling is a mixed bag. The driving is about a million times as engaging as in Forza, part of this is because of the FF wheel of course since I play F3 with a controller, but there is definitely some weird areas. Vehicle dynamics feel/look better, body roll in particular. But wtf the brake balance. All cars have wayyy too much braking force on the rear wheels by default, I kept locking up the rears and spinning after almost every hard braking zone, even in smaller shitbox cars. After a while I adapted and started letting up on the brake force towards the end of the braking zone, but it was really hard to time since it just happens all of a sudden without warning. Even setting the ABS to the lowest setting seems to make a WORLD of difference to this and the general handling of the car. Collisions sound AWFUL and look kind of weird, but I do like that you actually lose control because of the weight transfer and can get into some serious fishtailing. Loss of grip on kerbs feels really good, and the cars have a lot more momentum than in Forza3, where you pretty much never spin out, ever.

Sound is pretty bad. Collisions sound like an artillery gun going off in your subwoofer, engine sounds are terrible and tiresqueal.wav is still looping away at every turn.

All in all a nice tryout, would buy for timetrialling if I was single and a millionaire etc etc.

Got NFS Shift PC via the Steam sale. With graphics maxxed, it's the best looking racing game ever. The physics in crashes, and not just against other cars but the track walls and debris, are amazing. It's a year old but it completely fucking destroys GT5 and Forza. Can't wait for 2.

I got more gametime into this, and the gameplay is starting to bore me already. It just feels like work now. You buy a new car you need for a specific event, it's barely fast enough for that event, you grind a bit, then  max out the hp stats on that model, then do it again for another obscure gimmick korean car from 1972 event or some bullshit, then you repeat, leaving you with an useless superjacked version of a car nobody has ever heard of before gt5 to rot in your garage.

.
I don't get the appeal of B-spec at all. I gotta watch all the races and tell the dude what to do all the time? What a fucking useless gimmick to artificially boost the length of the game. What's the point of that mode? You have like 5 orders you can say and .. thats it. I thought it was going to be like in those rally games where you play the assistant that calls out the next turns.

The special events are interesting tho. Its also interesting to read the description of each car, you can learn a bit from what. But i hate how limited the tuning feels.. you just upgrade the parts and thats it, you cant really tweak any settings or numbers yourself (I remember watching my cousin playing Forza, and he was deep tweaking engine settings and calibrating his handling for drifting.. that was fun to watch. Or maybe that was in PGR4).

Shuri, that's how I feel about the game. I fucking hate the gimmick races where it's like "Find a Japanese car built in 1965 that's under 100hp", then I have to keep poring over the shitty used car lot looking for SOMETHING that might fit the bill, but then there's only some piece of shit that I have to spend a fortune on to upgrade to be competitive.

Is there a premium car available that fits the bill for all of the A-spec races?

I really miss the Forza style where I can:

-- Buy whatever car I want whenever I want it, given the funds
-- Change the car quickly upon going into a career race
-- Get a warning if my car's not going to be competitive.

Perhaps with the next incarnation Lord Kaz will give us these features because he thought of them himself...not because they were in Forza.

Exactly!

Also why is the selection of cars so limited in arcade? I want to be able to play the cars I've unlocked and tweaked in career mode. I know there some sort of way but why is it so limited and annoying? The lack of options is very strange. I want to be able to do thing like set up my own opponents myself. I want to give them specific cars and so on. Heck it would be amazing to be able to use all my own cars and share them with the AI opponents. The menu system is VERY annoying to use, I wonder if there were any kind of focus group testing done at all. There are tons of menus with loading to get basic stuff done and it takes time. I just want to quickly change my car and my tweaks. I dont want to have to deal with 10 menus changes just to buy new tires, install them, etc etc etc.

it's an incredible drag sometime.

But when you get to the racing, it is fun, but ugh. Come on, the menus and options are basic design stuff. I think they need to change the team behind the game completely. They are still doing things like in 1998, and while you can feel its a labor of love, they are just blind to modern stuff.

I think I'm burnt out.  All challenges and licenses gold except for the X1 which I have 2 silvers and a gold on. (You win a second X1).  I imagine you win a 3rd if you get all gold.  No way in hell am I going to grind out to level 40.  Tried some of the seasonal stuff and I just find myself not caring enough.  Got a 1:05.XX lap in the first GT Academy time trial and realized it'd take me way too much time to be in the top and actually win so I'm skipping it.  I think it's time to go back to other racing games.

I would be playing this to troll it, but I can't play because its taking FIVE FUCKING HOURS to download the update. Seriously. The time remaining is roughly FIVE HOURS.

True. But still, you must want to actually play the game if you bought it. Also, that progress bar is fucked, usually takes a quarter of the time it specifies at the beginning.
