NOOKcolor? iPad Lite for the poor folks

Apparently, I've not been keeping up with the tech world as much as I thought I was.  It's that damned Doctor Who and Netflix that's done it to me.

Anywho...  Talking points!
  • Only $249 which makes it $250 less than the cheapest iPad
  • Comes with 8gb of memory and has built-in Wi-Fi access
  • 7in color touchscreen
  • Android based platform

Looks like they just started shipping on 11/16.  I was just at a Barnes & Noble a month ago and nothing was ever mentioned about the Nook Color there.  I wonder how tight a lid they were keeping on it.  The wife and I were thinking about getting Nook's for each other for Christmas, but we may save our money and get the Nook Color's once we try them out and do some more research.

The only downfall I see right now for most people is the limited number of apps.  People always go bonkers about the damn apps.  But with an Android platform, I'd say we aren't far from seeing a decent number of apps on the way.  Either way, I don't care, because it's not about the apps for me.

When I had an iphone, I never could stand trying to read something substantial on it.  I think the size of the display really makes a difference.

7'' is about right for a book but pretty crappy for web browsing. So if you must have your books in color (maybe purple text in Comic Sans!) on an eye-tiring backlit screen (I'm guessing, pls correct me if I'm wrong), go for this. If you want to read in comfort, get a Kindle. If you want to browse in style, get an iPad. This doesn't seem like it would be particularly good at anything.

Yes, but we listen to a crazy amount of music, add in games, video, apps and more. If ipod touch were just a music player I'd suggest getting the 8 gig, but since it's not, I just can't.

Well, you can change text size on the kindle app.

iPhone 4 screen is off teh hizzy. I will agree that reading for any great length of time on a 3G screen became straining to the eye.
