And yet there is a version of Metroid Prime that outclasses dual analog controls. Does that automatically make it alright?  Who cares anyway, Metroid Prime is really a 3d zelda game and used a similar lock on system.

and anyone who can't adapt to the stupidly easy controls of metroid prime deserve more lambasting than the the ones who enjoy one of the best games in the last decade.

The only missing effects were Samus's idle animations (I think I'm the only one who bothered to test this), rippling water, and some particle effects from charging the cannon.  Which is typical nerd nitpicking bullshit and I'm pretty sure you don't like it either.

Got a ps2 during the great gamecube drought of 04-06.  Disagaea was stupid grindy bullshit, gta was meandering and directionless with a terrible sense of humor, capcom fighting games are convoluted for no good reason, Ico was cool, Splinter Cell was trial and error and not fun, Katamari Damacy was the bees knees, every single square enix game sucked, Kingdom Hearts the most, Okami is bad and anyone who recommends it is bad. I have no problem putting Metroid Prime above a sizable portion of the ps2 library.

edit: Burnout was fun, I think those stopped coming out for the cube after 2.  Virtua Fighter 4 was blaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand. Maybe there was a great fighter in there, I'll never know.

this has retro's name on it, so everyone are ass kissing the game. The game itself is pretty good, but it sure doesn't make you go apeshit like the whole neogaf userbase do. The waggle controls are horrible, i have no idea why it gets a pass because of this? Not only are there waggle controls, but you have to do 3 different waggle motions also  :yuck

At last, it is inexcusable that there is no classic controller support. Rare did it better 17 years ago.

that's the point, it was made 17 years ago! It was awesome back then, but todays standards i expect more out of DKCR. And the controls sucks. Why do they need the need to have waggle in a platformer?

Only played the first two levels, but this isn't bad! better than the Rare games already.  It still has its problems.

The controls and game in general feel sloppy, and that's without talking about the waggle moves.  It just doesn't feel as tight and responsive as a platformer should.  The waggle moves are on a scale of awfulness.  I actually liked the waggle jump in NSMB Wii, but having it for roll (and other moves) is a bad idea.  The roll sometimes just straight up doesn't work for me, and even when it does, it never feels natural like it did in NSMB.  Blowing is the worst and is more of a problem with how much shit the game expects you to collect.  I don't want to stop every second because I need to check to see if a flower has a coin or some shit I'd need.  I don't get why they even need blowing when you have smacking, like Donkey Kong's eight foot radius monster hands can't create enough wind power to disturb some peddles.

Oh, and the nunchuck controls messed up.  The only way waggle registers from the remote is if you waggle straight down; I played the Galaxy games doing a side waggle because it felt right.  When you need to smack the ground, the game requires you to do with both the nunchuck and remote.  Why isn't there a classic control option? at least in NSMB Wii there were stages that needed you to tilt platforms.

And the game looks pretty nice.  Obviously the wii is low res decade old hardware, but I can see this game looking pretty nice through dolphin or something.

also, the cart stages and rocket stages suck.  Otherwise, it seems pretty alright.  I'll try kirby next.

stages based around barrels suck too, and those aren't even cheap flash game mechanics! (they could be)

and I messed around with this on dolphin and mapping waggle to a single button makes the game considerably better.  Nintendo is definitely trying to sabotage motion gaming by showing how bad it can be.  It's a shame that the game doesn't run at perfect speed for me, which matters even though it does look much, much better.

I really shouldn't have bought this yet, but I was buying some mundane shit like a cell phone charger and the game was just staring at me promising there was more to life than replacing shit the dog chewed up.  Christmas is going to be on a budget.

Ahem

I really really like this game. Level design is exceptional.  Tidal Terror in particular has a nice psychological aspect to it where you want to risk your life to get collectibles that are going to get washed away any second.  Visual density with astounding attention to detail is the norm as far as the art is concerned.  I don't understand how people are having problems with the motion controls, they're perfectly sensitive and match your actions. If anything was problematic for me, sometimes I forget to stop moving before I attempt to ground pound, which does a roll.  Blowing air with waggle doesn't make sense though.  I'm also having a similar problem with Diddy's jetpack messing up my high bounce timing, but its not a huge deal. This game is better than any game in the original dkc trilogy and is a great game in its own right.  I wasn't sure what to think of Retro for the longest.  They've proven with this game that they can go beyond Metroid and its conventions.  It seems they can take whatever you throw at them for inspiration and return it better harder faster stronger smarter.

Bravo.

The stages with the rocket barrel are horrible, but there's a lot of clever design to be had... that is, if you don't mind muscle-memory. Lots of this game requires memorization, especially if you're aiming to get the KONG letters or puzzle pieces. Just beat every stage in the game, including the K levels, and got all the puzzle pieces. Just gotta do the final battle and the extra stage, and then I'm done. Not planning on going for mirror mode or the speedruns.

I'm only at world 3, but there's nothing I've encountered so far that would be classified as muscle memory or trial and error.  There was this time in the first minecart level that I didn't realize the spiky thorn ceiling was on the same plane of play of me, but thats about it.
