They sure did economise on the soundtrack. It's basically the same OST as in the SNES games. Not that I mind.
Just finished the Jungle world. The game shits all over NSMB Wii.

Could never get into the other DKC games but this one is incredible so far. Only beat the first two worlds, but if this keeps up... Retro > Rare

In a way I think this game validates Retro Studios. I suspected they might only be 'good enough' for a  'good enough' metroid, and then like 3 heads of the studio ran off to EA. Nevertheless, with the super positive reception this game is getting I have full faith in the studio. Hopefully they get some leverage to launch their own ip now, although I wouldn't mind them taking a whack at something like fzero, if only to expand their genre capabilities further.

I honestly probably wouldn't mind them taking charge of a Zelda game *shrugs*

this game is just so so fucking good.  I also think it's better than NSMB Wii...and I thought NSMB Wii was insanely good.

Who cares?  Retro was about to work on a Zelda game before Nintendo changed their mind and gave them Donkey Kong instead.  Let them do what they want.  And I think they'd really like doing a Zelda game.

Because they're already about to release a new Zelda game that sounds pretty good, it would be redundant for them to do another Zelda when they could be given the chance to reinvigorate another franchise or embark on a new intellectual property.  I was really crestfallen when I found out EAD tokyo was working on another Super Mario Galaxy game, those two years could've been working on something original to diversify the wii portfolio.

'But Emceegramr, who cares? Super Mario Galaxy 2 was so awesome'
Well I didn't much care for Galaxy 2, sir, despite it being good it just didn't resonate with me.

i never played 2 or 3, and it is better than the first dkc, which was wretched. this is slightly less than wretched. this is charmless, perfunctory platforming of the most early 16-bit variety

Epic Yarn was terrible, I can't believe you're actually trying to argue this game is worse than that.  drinky is usually okay with his weird opinions but this is just fucking wrong, absolutely wrong.  This game controls very well, has a challenge not seen in nintendo platformers since the super nintendo, and has wonderfully designed terrain and courses.  If you come back with a "shaking wiimote sucks" defense I'm going to electrocute myself and all those around me.

So I looked up "perfunctory". I don't see how this game is perfunctory as far as platformers go.  There's a huge attention to detail and care paid to the animations and environments. Were you expecting some gimmick?

i was expecting actual technique and interesting environment interactivity of the sort of i have come to expect post yoshi's island. i expect the sort of mechanical ingenuity at LEAST of a level seen in kirby's epic yarn or the average pc indie platformer

this is tame, bland hop-and-bop with hateful characters and boring levels

It's okay... after seeing the O in the very first level hovering above a death gap I knew it was only going to get worse from here. So I went back to Arc Rise Fantasia while I had my Wii on instead. Diddy's jetpack is 5 degrees of useless.

The game doesnt tell you anything either. I had no idea you could ground pound the yellow pods, among other things. At least you can throw away the nunchuk. Waggle is of course, unnecessary and tacked on. Would have been just fine with regular Gamecube pad.

uh, the game does tell you.  the first level is entirely a tutorial level.  everytime you come up to something you can interact with, a pop-up image telling you want to do comes up.

The fifth world is amazing from start to finish. So good. Game gets noticeably harder. World 4's a bit too trial and error-ish, but I'm enjoying the game so much as a whole that I'll just let these stages pass. I could never play any of the other DKC games for longer than 2 hours, yet this is addictive as hell. Retro :bow

This kills the SNES DKC games, but that isn't a huge achievement.

But in all honesty, other than the forced waggle, which I don't get at all, it's pretty fun platforming.

The only thing I don't like (like Rman mentioned) are the motion controls. They really feel tacked on.

Very little. Was burned out on them. Then it's best to just stop and see if the itch returns. It did.

Also do not like the motion controls. It's okay for the stomp, but rolling needed a button.

Played through the first world last nite. Game looks amazing graphically (especially the sunset level), level designs are much more clever than Rare's so far. Don't like the motion controls, it seems like you need to shake really hard for them to work. I never use the roll, since it seems every time I try to use it, it doesn't trigger. Other complaint is so far, most of the music seems like remixes of DKC's music... not much in the way of originality. Still so far, it's better than Rare's DKC games and it's much better than Retro's Metroid Prime games.

giant octopus level!

world 3 was worse than 2 but better than 1
i don't think the game is as hard as the various reviews claim,at world 4 i already have stashed around 40 lives and while i do die occasionaly,i don't think barring a single exception there was a single segments where i died more than twice
so yea,it's better than the last nintendo game that got released, tough i guess that's not saying much...

best level i played so far it's this one,in fact this level was awesome,i wish the whole game was like this

Having Retro do a real Zelda (2D or 3D) is one of the worst ideas ever. I have my issues with Aonuma, but I trust him waaaaay more with Zelda than Retro. None of Nintendo's top-tier games should be sent to other developers. Even if they happen to be within Nintendo.

Now if Retro wants to do Starfox, or Kid Icarus? Who cares.

Metroid Prime rocks, though. Great boss fights, great level design, great atmosphere. I don't see how anyone can say they'd be a good match for Metroid but not for Zelda seeing as how Metroid and Zelda are practically the same genre.
