My mom isn't bad but my older sister makes these Capt Picard like status updates that sound hilarious and/or embarrassing.

My mom's pretty bad too. They both do things with FB that no one else does, like tag people in pictures that aren't there.

My mom and dad share a profile and I love it because my sister tends to post some stupid "I'm twenty but I like to act like I'm fifteen" shit and she gets called out for it. Parental vision in the digital realm.

Thankfully few members of my family use Facebook, saving me from this. Also, I wish Facebook had a way to keep updates and messages open to certain friends and invisible to others.

same for my folks, though I assume 99% of the time that it's my dad using it. :lol

Yeah, having family members on FB is something I'm leery of.  I've added a few, but am not so sure it was a good idea.

The worst though has been seeing my 18 year old cousin's vomit-inducing puppy love status updates.  :yuck    :lol

I see that pretty often.

There's a friend of mine who seems to live on Facebook and acts like this with his fiancee all the time.  There was a point months ago when he seemed to be updating with stupid posts every few minutes.

Nobody cares.  Send an e-mail or a text.

Would be awesome if there was a swear word filter that kept that post out of the stream of family members (or anyone you specify)

You can organize friends via different friend groups.

Also I can't be myself because of my family. I posted a video one video with some dude cussing and my aunt was like NO CUSSING. Even though I didn't cuss. Also Triumph said he fucked my mom once to which a different aunt was like WTF but rolled with it. Lol

Family on Facebook isn't a big deal for me anymore. I'm probably the most politically left-minded person in my family, excepting possibly my sister. My mom and step-dad are prObama, intensely disliked Dubya, but are ensconced in Idaho, which is full of people so right-wing that unless you are part of a militia they'll assume you must be a communist. So they're stealth democrats. The rest of my family doesn't understand why I get pissed off about the War in Iraq because "isn't it a good idea to get rid of Saddam Hussein? Wasn't he a jerk? Wasn't he a military dictator? And they were GOING TO ATTACK US!"

They all wanted to connect with me, stick me in the "We're Family" applet... Then they probably put me on ignore after a couple weeks of posts about the separation of church and state, warnings about rescinding Roe vs. Wade, taking Tea Party fascists to task for violent behavior, and ACLU/Amnesty International notifications.

Where I am currently in a pickle is WORK related Facebook connections. I usually just point them to LinkedIn, but the most recent invite came from the executive who negotiates my contract each period.  :-\

You know what's REALLY uncomfortable?

People asking for a friend request on LinkedIn, accompanied by a plea for a job recommendation. I know this one person vaguely IRL, but everyone else who knows him tells me he has drinking problems and is prone to missing chunks of time with no explanation and has walked out on his last two jobs in a huff. Oh sure, I'll be your friend!

Jesus, having relatives on Facebook is a NIGHTMARE.

The first person to get one was my mom. I denied her request about fifty times, because at the time I was eighteen, Facebook JUST became public, and I basically posted about getting drunk and doing fun things all the time on my status. This was way before I even had professors or even a lot of friends. When I denied her request, she would call me every day and ask me why I denied her request and then complain that I didn't love her because I was embarrassed to be her friend when in reality I just didn't want to deal with her bullshit.

So I accepted her.

There's probably a bajillion pictures of "me" that are actually cats online. Every time I use any language in a status message I get bitched at. It just got worse as my grandparents got a computer and a facebook. My dad and uncle have a facebook, but they are cool, even though no one in my family has similar political views. I just post my shit, they bitch about it, we move on with our lives. But if I use "damn" then my mom has the first comment about how I should take the status down and then she just bitches at me over the phone for hours until I do it.

Treating me like I'm 12: NOW AVAILABLE ONLINE!!!!!!!!!!!!

I feel like my freedom of speech is constricted now because I have so many "rules" to post by so that way I don't piss someone off and have to hear them bitch and complain over the phone for three hours about how I'm "irresponsible;" about how some things "shouldn't be posted."

So I just don't use Facebook anymore other than updating if the Packers won or not, or to send a message to a friend or something every once in a while. All the joy has been sucked out of it.

Political discussion is the main reason I quit face book long ago. It's a problem of mine. I cannot just let an idiot circle jerk take it's course uninterrupted. Since most of my sourced rebuttals are deleted I figured I wouldn't waste my time anymore. I haven't been on FB for almost a year now.

Rule #1: don't mix friends and family. I don't add any family members. My parents aren't computer savvy, but my cousins constantly try to friend me, as does one of my uncles who's been having a mid life crisis for the last decade; he dresses like he's 20, has rims on his Escalade, and his gf is less than half his age (and morbidly obese)

My mom just posts about boring shit.  And church.  My sister posts about shit at church to start shit.  My other family members are cool, except for one of my cousins who just got out of a long-term relationship and sells this pyramid bullshit energy drink.

"You can't get the J man down.  He's living life to the fullest, meeting beautiful girls every night, drinking Zija, and making tons of money!"

I really can't stand when people talk about themselves constantly in the third-person.  And yeah, he's the asshole that's not getting invited to the family Thanksgiving.
WTF
