The games arent really that great when it comes to gameplay but iirc the puzzles were great late on in the games.  If you like puzzles you should try them.

The first was so so, the second was great. The big draw was the cool puzzles and experimenting with Djinn combinations which changes the classes of your characters. I don't know if they aged very well but if you can stomach the GBA's tech these days they're worth checking out. They are far, FAR from being "shit", "worst", and "most boring."

i wouldn't call them bad but they are as averagish you get in every sense, you know it has those kind of borish RPG trope like teleporting villain and elemental themed dungeon, and combat doesn't go much beyond "use your best attacks and heal occasionaly"
besides the first game ends in a cliffhanger and 2 is a direct sequel so you don't even get the whole deal unless you get them both which is a little lame
waiting for magus' impressions
will try in a while

ok i think i played for at least 1 hour and i still haven't seen the first proper dungeon... so the game is a direct sequel of golden sun 2 and in fact it's set 30 years later, apparently when the heroes saved the world, they also fucked it up because well... that's how things work when they make a sequel 7 years later,so now they have to fix it up again

in the meantime the heroes of the first game have grown a lot of facial hairs and had kids,so you now control their little kids instead... the first bit of the game (which come after a somewhat boring and long intro which retell the event of the first game) is a dungeon that is somewhat tutorialish and since you are accompained by two of the heroes of the first game,it's basicaly impossible to die

after that you finaly get to go on a quest of your own altough this just send you to a place called "psyenergy training ground" where basicaly the game retells you once again the plot of the first game (tough in a little more detail this time) trough a lot of cardboard cutouts and some puzzle solving,in fact the whole affair ends up in a boss fight against a cardboard version of golden sun 2 final boss.... and so far that's all i played

the rest of the game can be easily described as golden sun in 3D,the music is still the same, character still do that really annoying squeaky sound when they talk (thank god you can disable it) and you still find djinn on a cliff that you reach by using your magic

the only difference's worth a mention are
1) during dialogue everytime a character mention a place or person it gets underlined, you can check more info about underlined words by tapping them with your stylus, this extra info then get added to a database, even tough the game doesn't really need such a feature it's a lot better than similiar RPG like xenosaga where they just dump a lot of unrelated info all at once and then they expect you to read it

2) weapon now have skills in them, the game hasn't told me how to unlock these and they also seems to trigger at random so i'm not sure it will ends up making a lot of difference in the end

3) the animation in this game is awesome, summons in particular are reminescent of FF7-8-9 summoning sequence and unlike final fantasy they are also skippable! here's a video showing some of them

:bow magus impressions :bow2 Do you get to play as Fenix's kid? Is he half as much of a badass?

Gonna dl and check it out and then just pick it up at GameStop later if I think I might like it. Perfect game to use store credit on.

Btw, the way you all described it was pretty much how I remembered it, so maybe I just have really low standards for average RPGs with a gimmick (puzzles fuck yeah!)

nope, you play as isaac kid, garret kid and ivan kid (who's a girl),isaac has a beard and garret an idiotic looking moustache

one thing i forgot to mention is that the MC is mute as usual but when character ask you a question you can respond in 4 way... happy, ecstatic, sad or angry,if you react in a out of situation way the character go all "why the heck are you happy???" on you :lol

but anyway i got a hidden summon, solved a looooooooooot of puzzle's and mashed my way trough a lot of random battles,so yea this game is exactly as averagish as the original golden sun, maybe it's even a little slower which makes it even worse

soooooooo stay away if you didn't like the first,go ahead otherwise

This game has the LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONGEST TUTORIAL EVER

STFU I KNOW HOW TO PLAY GOLDEN SUN

Like seriously. There's this long ass montage just to teach me how to throw a fuckin fireball.

Also the battles have this extremely obnoxious blur in them.

And since when is Isaac this fucking jedi type shit. Garet is this fatass klutz.

Also do you love how these characters have children and you never see the mothers? Do they just pump and dump some broad in the village? Although I am now imagining Garet getting his fuck on. Mmmm

But yeah so far its like WE'RE THE WARRIORS OF VALE WE BLEW UP THE WORLD. WANT TO KNOW HOW TO TAKE A DUMP? [happy] [ok] [sad] [angry]

4 different choices and the answers NEVER has any impact on the game?

Oh well atleast it is Golden Sun.

So noone is playing this game? I am 25 hours into it, and I really can't complain. Yes it has a slow start, but the game opens up later in the game and you're not just going from the classic dungeon > town > dungeon > town here. You can visit plenty of towns and places at the same time and solve different puzzles with your psyenergy. It feels fresh that a NDS game get this kind of treatment. I dont know about you, but I have definitely felt that most JRPGs released for the DS has been rushed and with a lousy budget. This game is a throwback to the SNES/GBA days. I am referring mostly to the dungeons that has fun puzzles and stuff. Yes the puzzles isn't very hard, but it is way better than walking in a straight line room to room for the boss.

yeah the game is very easy, but I heard there is an optional boss that can be tough. Oh well, I rather play an easy jrpg than a totally shitty one.

I only play my DS in bed or when I dont feel like turning a console on... so I only get random time in. If I had the same habit as I do on the console I would be done with this by now.

The final boss is ridiculously tough.  Had to raise 10 levels to fights him.
