The album is right up the grammy folk's alley. Middle aged white people who seem hell bent on rewarding the artists of their adulthood, or whoever sounds similar.

Brothers is their most well-rounded album, arguably their best, inarguably one of the best albums of last year.  Glad they got some recognition for it.

We all know the real album of the year was Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty.

Definitely the best engineered/mastered album I've ever heard.

I don't understand the conversation happening at some forums, gaf in particular.  "bu..bu...but they're dicks!  I know because someone told me so!  And one instance during blahblahblah"

who gives a fuck?  Kanye West had one of the best albums last year and he's an incorrigible prick.  Doesn't affect how much I listened to that album.  AKA: ALL THE FUCKING TIME

Good for Christopher Tin winning for Baba Yetu, though.  When you hear it, you know that hours of your life are about to be lost.

The Roots/John Legend cleaned up the awards, nice. I'm damn surprised the Nas/Damien Marley album didn't get any nominations. Seemed right up the Grammy's narrow alley

Watching the Eminem performances. Laughably bad. I can't think of the last time I saw him not lip sync. I Need a Doctor is simply a bad song, and follows the exact same progression as the other Alex da Kid pop rap songs (Love The Way You Lie, Coming Home, Words I Never Said, Castle Walls etc)

this must be what it was like for someone who grew up listening to the Stones hearing their 80s shit. Em is horrible now

Today at school everybody was like "Who was that Arcade something that won the Grammy?" "Lady Gaga is a freak and she makes fun of cripples in her music videos, she shouldn't have won anything" and then while they were showing clips on the 12 o'clock news, there was this older lady that was like "Wait, is that Eminem on stage? I thought he was black."

A lot of people hate that Arcade Fire won, but this guy's taking it one step further and claiming that it may actually be illegal.

My response to the people on the tumblr page is "Sorry u mad, bro. Not everyone can like cool things."

I recorded it last night and am watching the end of the show right now... Streissand and Kristofferson were hilarious as they had no idea what was going on.

Wait, are Arcade Fire really considered an unknown quantity by a lot of people? I don't know if it's just cause of the Cancon regulations up here but they've been receiving fairly heavy aiplay ever since Funeral was released. Plus being at the forefront of the indie rock movement and the constant pimping by Pitchfork et al. has got to amount to something I'd imagine.

They used to play Funeral on repeat all day at some of the places I used to hang out, but maybe that says more about the kind of places where I hang out.

Yeah I'm shocked people don't even know who Arcade Fire are. They even play remixes of them on BPM (Sirius XM's dance pop station). I'm not a big fan of them personally but I gotta give props to anyone who writes a song about suburban sprawl.

Am I the only one who has never heard of Bruno Mars or Lady Antibellum before the other night though?

I only listen to KEXP and NPR, so I have no idea what gets radio play in mainstream America, but this has been the common response. I was actually talking to my mom today and she mentioned the Grammy's. When she went on about how she'd never heard of this Arcade Fire band before, I had to remind her that my wife and I put one of their songs on our wedding CD from 2006. The CD that she loves and listens to all the time. :lol

I knew not everyone listened to them, and they may not get alot of radio airplay, but I'd assume anyone even remotely following music would have at least heard of them. People going bonkers over them winning is mindboggling to me.

Yeah, cause St Anger was some quality shit*.

It was for And Justice for All so a very long time ago. When they won for the black album, Lars thanked JT for not releasing an album that year when they accepted the award on stage.

They debuted at the number one spot on Billboard's top 200 albums and charted in the top 20 for weeks. So yeah, I can't believe how many people never heard of them even though they made their mark on mainstream channels.

No, most people like corporate puppets. Why else would Ke$ha have been popular?
