So, after finally beating Twilight Princess I have to say...
« on: December 25, 2006, 08:28:26 PM »
...it's actually a bit disappointing.  :-\  I mean, it's still a great game, but it didn't deliver like I thought it would. I loved the dungeons for the most part, and think some are the best in the series. The overworld is nice, and lots to explore. The final battle was a bit meh, and not something grand like OoT's ending. Lots of lose ends still there too. And this isn't even about the tear hunts, which although annoying as hell, were only few and in the beginning. Not to mention the music was easily forgettable for the most part.

Le sigh.  :-\

I enjoyed it quite a bit, but I'm actually having a better time replaying Skies of Arcadia.

Well, you were complaining that it was more of the same iirc. To me that wasn't the problem, but rather how some parts were handled.

Funny you mention this since I started it yesterday. Pretty interesting so far.

I don't see how it was disappointing at all. You people have ridiculous expectations.

Would've been better if the game came out a year ago like it should have.

I agree, but I liked the last battle and the ending.

As much as I hate Wind Waker, I'd have to agree that the good parts of Wind Waker have been much more enjoyable than my experience with Twilight Princess thus far. Mind you, I just got the Master Sword.

That being said, they really need to do a game that can deliver the charm of Wind Waker with the grand scale of Twilight Princess.

If they stuck Wind Waker's graphics on TP's dungeons and axed the overworld minigames, you'd have a 3D Zelda that trumps even Okami.

Now what overworld minigames are you talking about?

And I guess I could describe my problems with Twilight Princess like this:

The game feels like a big mishmash of various ideas.
spoiler (click to show/hide)
You're just sorta shoved into all of these various scenarios. Oh, here out of the blue, I'm a guardian. Take my tear sack and go kill some bugs, with no real explanation behind it all. Oh good! You killed the bugs, now go to the dungeon x3. Oops, I'm a wolf all of a sudden! Midna is just gonna hop on now without much introduction or anything. Kill these twilight guys, they'll give you a warp point! Oh that Zant! No explanation about him at all! That might immerse you in the game a bit more!

The best part of the story so far has been finding the kids and Ilia. That's the only stuff that had any real draw to it for me.

The bugs carry the light which powers the guardians, you turn into a wolf for unknown reason but they clearly state that normally when people come into contact with twilight they turn into ghosts; the point being you will turn into SOMETHING, Midna jumps on your back and stuff because she finds you to be a useful asset and uses you for her own goals. Why is an introduction needed? You're a prisoner in a cell, Midna comes to rescue you, what else do you want? The twilight guys rule the world of twilight so they can manipulate it as they please, you killed them without them leaving thus keeping a gate opened. Self explanatory. There is an explanation on Zant and it's right after the 4th dungeon.

I thought it was pretty self explanatory and think you uber Zelda fanatics are treating the  series as if it had much weight in terms of plot in the first place. Instead of just simply playing the game and finding out answers as they come you want answers now.

DURRR

I know what the bugs do. WHY the fuck are there bugs out of the blue that are invisible, though?

Please yourself.

Add a bit more story to the game, and it'll draw you in more. Wind Waker told a much better story (from whatI can tell so far), than Twilight Princess does.

I'll have to replay Majora's Mask at some point, but that's such a fantastic fucking game  with everyoen having their own little goings-on, that it's hard to compare with other games in the series.

God Himu keep coming up with excuses for this game, I mean really Nintendo damange force 2006.

Music sucked, and there was lack of overall feeling and character development, great dungeons and bosses, but they were too easy.

Overall for the next Zelda game I'd love to see a better score, better characters, harder bosses.

My biggest problem is that the game goes from okay during the first 3 temples, to "holy shit fuck awesome!" after you get the master sword, but then loses a lot of momentum when you reach Zant and Ganon. I know some of you could care less about the story in Zelda games, but a major reason why OoT's ending (to me) was so damn satisfying was that you met Ganon early on, and he kicked your ass easily, but you came back stronger than before and confronted him in an (imo, better directed) epic final battle. In TP, you were just some little tagalong that just happened to be there to Ganon.

And then there's the issue with the music. Fucking Nintendo, I swear. This has arguably the worst and most forgettable music in the Zelda series so far, imo. I literally cannot recall any really good tracks, aside from the Hyrule field theme and Princess Zelda's lullaby (which is just a remix of a theme done 15 years ago). And no doubt the ones that were good were most likely done by Kondo, just like in WW. Nintendo should fire the other two losers who worked on the music (one of them being the same chick who did the score for NSMB). Seriously, you'd think Nintendo would at least use some of their more talented composers, like from the FE team or something. And this isn't even including the sound quality which is just pathetic.
