yeah, the $15 a month thing kills it for me.  I just want to play the game single player because it is a fun action rpg (a bit less smooth than non-mmo ones) set around DC worlds and characters.

I will say that for an mmo this was fairy entertaining and I would buy it if they got rid of the monthly fee.  Though, I am looking forward to the old republic and hoping that it can be enjoyed more as a single player game.  The objectives in DC Universe Online got a bit too tedious to do on your own.

TOR will have a monthly fee too.

I'm sure it will.  But I'm not totally against the idea of paying that fee if I think I'll get enough value out of it.  While I liked what I played of DCUO, I don't I can justify it.  Any hope I have for the Old Republic is just because I liked KOTOR; if it turns out to be just as bad and similar to other mmos, I doubt I'd even check it out, much less pay a monthly fee.  It's their money to lose if they don't produce an entertaining game.

So after it taking 10 hours to download (literally) I got in about 4 hours of gameplay. Not bad. Not worth $15/mo but certainly a awesome game if it was $60 and then done.

This turd had a $50 million budget.  Good luck with that sony.  Their only hope is the PS3 version.

MMOs and consoles don't mix.

It's the top seller on Steam and Direct2Drive and it's #2 on Amazon for PC after DA2.

FFXI PS2 did just fine and the 360 one was healthy for a bit, despite being an old ass game.  what else has there been?  Everquest?  The fact, nobody has really tried all that hard.

Age of Conan had some hype right out the gate

As did Warhammer

As did [insert MMO here that was hopeful for a minute, then died quickly thereafter]

It just seems logical:
PC -- WoW country.  Do not attempt a huge MMO and expect people to stick with you for years unless you find a way to make your game totally amazing.  but you're up against Blizzard?  Are you Blizzard?  No? Then it's probably good to quit now.

Consoles-- Not WoW Country.  An MMO killer app isn't there.  It's a great big pussy waiting to be fucked, kind of like the pre-Golden Eye FPS situation.  but much more complicated, obviously.

I'd play like some grindy FPS MMO with "missions" (quests) and "assaults" (raids/dungeons/instances) if the PvP was good

How did FF11 work with controllers? I wanted to say something about how hilarious the thought is of someone trying to raid or PvP in WoW on a console w/o mouse and keyboard support

Did Sony fund DCU?  I played it for about 4-5 hrs and felt that it wasn't a total turd.  The graphics are pretty nice for a MMO and does a pretty good job of capturing the feel of the DC universe.  Combat is also more involving than most MMORPGS.  Character customization is also pretty good as there are enough powers to make almost any Superhero you'd want.

The main problem with this game is that gameplay consists mostly of your Superhero performing lots of mundane tasks.  You never feel like you're more than a 4th tier character that gets killed in 1 panel of a crossover.  WOW and newer games have always moved way beyond fetch quests which makes DCU feel really old despite its above average graphics for the genre.

Over 10 minutes of saying the same goddamn thing. Lack of communication on PSN. Well, that really has nothing to do with the game but rather Sony not pushing PSN to be a social thing like Microsoft does with Xbox Live. Uses VGChartz to talk about sales, which was dumb. Then he complains that DCUO having a subscription fee will cause other games to have one. Which doesn't make sense unless those other games are MMOs.

Also, I don't understand his issue with Final Fantasy 11. I don't recall hearing that it doesn't work because of the OtherOS removal.

The guy's a distinguished mentally-challenged fellow.

What he's talking about with FFXI was a file you had to download from PSN that emulated the PS2 HDD filesystem and allowed you to install FFXI. IIRC that file was removed from PSN when they killed PS2 BC.

Yea except they purposely held back a power set for the expansion, and lied by saying they didn't know how to pull off the powers in-game; despite there being a whole Lantern/Sinestro Corps mission series where NPCs use those powers.

Played some DC Universe Online today and I really liked it. It was cool flying around using magic lassos on cops, certainly helps that I like the DC Universe making it pretty easy to get into.

Yea I'll hit 30 by the end of this week on my first character. Then I'll either do a Batman mentored hero or a villain.

I've been going back into the Alerts and collecting the hidden Briefings, as they unlock unique styles (mostly helms, but there's a chest piece and gloves as well) that you can only get that way. Area 51 unlocks the cowboy hat, but I just did Oolong Island and it gives a helm that's like The Flash crossed with The Rocketeer.

She is an ironic hipster.  Also, I'm willing to pay $50 and the monthly fee if Joe would let me hit that.
