Dreamcast collection coming soon to 360 (and PS3?)

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/news/news-7109-SEGA-s-Dreamcast-Collection-Coming--Soon-.html

get hyped! A disc based collection of Dreamcast games.

Will we see Shenmue with cheevos attached? I hope and pray. Lets hope every game has cheevs, unlike the piss poor cheevo list on the Genesis collection. 99 cheevs or bust

For $30 it's probably just the XBLA ports of Soul Calibur, Sonic Adventure, and Crazy Taxi on disc.

This is partly why I didn't buy the latest XBLA DC games. I'll just pick this pack up instead.

Long live the Dreamcast :bow

It'll probably only include games that Sega developed or published themselves. I doubt it'll even have third party DC games that are already on XBLA, like Rez, Ikaruga, Triggerheart, etc.

theres a lot of great sega games. Like Headhunter, Blue Stinger, Shenmue, Skies of Arcadia... if just 2 of these are in this collection I will poop my pants

Quote from: sega dude
"The titles are still to be announced," said Pritchard. "The Ultimate Genesis Collection did huge numbers on PS3 and 360, so it's an important part of our business. We've already been releasing some Dreamcast games digitally; Crazy Taxi [for one]."

This quote makes it sound like there will be more games?

Since the only DC games on XBLA that are by Sega are Crazy Taxi and Sonic Adventure, I'd think there will be some more on this disc.

But this is Sega, we can expect them to fuck this up

It's going to be a letdown.  Will be mainstream titles like Sonic Adventure games that suck.  Maybe we'll get lucky and get a Jet Set Radio, but none of the real DC greats are gonna show up.

Sega also has Virtual On Oratorio Tangram on XBLA, plus they've announced Sega Bass Fishing and Space Channel 5 Part 2 XBLA ports. So I'd expect at least those plus Sonic Adventure and Crazy Taxi.

I'm sure they will find some lame-o reason for not releasing the good games, like because there's some licensed music track in it and it's soooooo hard to remove or replace it because the original programmers quit and went to work for a real company

It's not like they only have the source code on an unlabelled cassette tape in a heap of Dire Straits albums somewhere. I'm sure all that stuff is tip-top and ready to rock!

SEGA Ages needs to be revived on a new system.  God I love that series, along with the two unofficial installments (NiGHTS, SEGA Rally).
How was the Nights port on PS2? I own it, but I need to get an import PS2 to play it.  The original Nights is one my favorite games ever--sadly I don't own a Saturn anymore.

The jp version doesn't even have these tracks, right? So I don't see why it's such a problem.

What about De La Jet Set Radio?

The Grind Square levels own. Grind Square proper is probably my favorite in the game. The other one where you're being chased by pharaoh's with electric whips is another favorite.

I couldnt play JSR without those levels!  :'(

Jet Grind Radio was sweet but for whatever reason, I only played it for two hours or so.  I bought the Xbox sequel upon release but never played it much either.  Which version was better?

JSR is a better game, JSRF has more streamlined features.

JSR is more tense, because characters chase you throughout entire levels. You have to pre-plan stages and make your tags count. You are racing against the clock in an eternal bid to get a Jet ranking -- the best rank. JSR is all about the arcade experience.

JSRF is more relaxed and yet more upbeat. It's more relaxed because you're no longer chased through levels and there's no time limit to stages either, this gives the game a bigger exploration focus. It's more linear in that you have no choice as to how you want to continue the story, but there's more content. It's more upbeat because it's faster, with a bigger emphasis on tricks and combos.

Two different experiences, both complimentary and two sides of the same coin.

I prefer JSR myself. JSRF is fantastic but it's not the type of game I can pop in and play at any time and speed run it because it takes more effort (first time I played I spent 30 hours with it and I didn't even get everything, there's a ridiculous amount of content). Whereas with JSR, I want to speed run it every time I play it.

But when I consider that JSR isn't bc or on xbla/psn whereas JSRF is, I gotta go with JSRF as it's a more accessible game. You can probably pick it up for 1 dollar at the local gamestop and it's 360 bc.

JGR was better. JSRF was a lot different though, they took out the time limit, made stages way bigger and ruined tagging.

The backwards compatibility on JSRF isn't that great though. It's playable, but some stages have major slowdown.

I loved JGR and played through it several times.

JSRF left me cold.  Could hardly get into it for more than a hour into the game.

Anyway, I assume it is just XBLA games on a disc.  Knowing Sega, somehow they will fuck up a task as simple as that.  Will probably pass.

I would like to play some of the Sega Ages collection like NiGHTS, Fighting Vipers 2, etc.  I know that will never happen so I abandoned that dream a couple of years ago.  I assume they go for shitloads of money on the internets.

Ooh, that's a goodie. I've always been curious about the evolution of that series. I'd heard D3 was at the root of it, but it's still unclear if they were working specifically with D3 or just inspired by them. However, it is good to be completely warned away from Golden Axe, the only item which really interested me in the set. When I first arrived in Japan in '93, there was an arcade with that in it, and I killed many breaks between classes bashing in skulls with my axe and being robbed blind by those goddamned blue capped sprites.

SEGA’s most beloved Dreamcast games in a must-have collection

Friday 14th January 2011 – SEGA® Europe Ltd. and SEGA® of America, Inc. today announced that a packaged compilation of classic titles from SEGA’s popular Dreamcast™ console will hit retail shelves on the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, and the PC. The Dreamcast Collection will be available on February 25th 2011 in Europe and February 22nd in North America, February 24th in Australia and February 25th in New Zealand.

The Dreamcast Collection includes the fan favourites Sonic Adventure™, Crazy Taxi™, SEGA Bass Fishing™ and Space Channel 5™: Part 2. Players will get to enjoy four very different Dreamcast experiences, from hopping behind the steering wheel of Crazy Taxi, to taking things a little slower by luring in their fish before catching them hook, line and sinker with SEGA Bass Fishing. Alternatively, take over as intergalactic news reporter Ulala in Space Channel 5: Part 2 and dance your way past the evil Rhythm Rogues, or make it all about speed in Sonic's first Dreamcast outing, Sonic Adventure!

SEGA’s Dreamcast Collection features enhanced graphics for both platforms versions, providing an even more engaging experience. In addition to this, achievements and online leader boards will be available for each game providing a competitive edge and allowing players to prove their skills!

“The Dreamcast console is still remembered as a pioneering console for online gaming,” commented Gary Knight, VP of Marketing at SEGA of America and SEGA Europe “We are delighted to be able to offer to our large community of dedicated fans a collection such as Dreamcast Collection for them to enjoy old favourites on this generation of consoles”.

Dreamcast Collection will be available in Europe in February 2011 for Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PC and PC digital download.

Skimping out on VOOT? Seriously? It's a high quality port of a high quality game; if SEGA tossed it in alongside Sonic and Crazy Taxi, they would surely gain some new VO fans in the process.

Oh well, I'll buy this pack once it's $20 or less. I couldn't care less about some fishing game, but I do want to play the other three.
