Does your SOUL still burn? Harada-san had one last treat for us for the holidays and here it is! We know at least one man’s soul is burning brightly with a new project. Introducing Daishi Odashima. Odashima-san is currently the game director for the upcoming Soulcalibur project. He began his love with the SOUL series playing the original Soul Calibur and eventually joined the development team for Soul Calibur III. He then went on to design for Soulcalibur IV and Broken Destiny on PSP. With Odashima-san’s new role, let’s all give him our best wishes! Follow him on twitter for the latest updates on the new project!

His first order of business? Letting everyone know…

I think this franchise encapsulates just how inept Namco is at handling all of their intellectual property.

Its everything they do.  But I feel from soul calibur 2's massive popularity they mismanaged this franchise to the point where I doubt it will ever get the fanfare it once had. The series is a parody of otaku perverse sensibilities at this point.

Please, no more guest characters, or at least no more from licenses that make no sense.

They should have Lady Gaga as a bonus character with Ivy's SCIII movelist. Her critical finish could be burning the loser to death with her fire-shooting bra.  :lol

+1 for Lady Gaga.

This series is an embarrassment though. There is only room for one big boobie fighting game and that is DOA. SC is about epic mythical badasses whomping on each other with cool weapons, not shitty cutscenes and uguu.

Eh, Soul Edge had the big bouncing boobs and multi-colored panty selecting too.  It's nothing new.

I second this motion. I also agree with a new DOA being made, but if Itagaki isn't attached I'm not interested.

A DOA without Itagaki might turn out better to be honest. DOA was never a top tier 3D fighter, if Hayashi and his new team understand fighting games then they could probably outdo the previous entries.

Ninja Gaiden on the other hand will never shine without the godking of action gaming at the helm, Tomonobu Itagaki.

Yeah, I guess you're right on that one. Still, it wouldn't be the same without Papa Itagaki :(

Knowing the female tastes of the devteam, they may go for Ke$ha instead.  :-\

Tekken Tag, Tekken vs. Street Fighter, and a new Soul Calibur.

Well, now that they've made Ace Combat and Tales into irrelevant series, time to get cracking on their still unruined franchises.

well it's good to see they launched with a minimum viable product and rapidly iterated in response to feedback, as one should, but I'm afraid they may have overshot the market a bit as of late and it's all getting kinda red oceany. they should pivot and compete on camel toe or something

It must be so sad to work on a franchise where the thing people seem to care about the most is what guest characters are going to be in it.  :lol
