iphone 4 dudes
« on: January 05, 2011, 02:14:40 PM »
When I got my iphone 4 I updated to the last firmware/itunes and now the sorting is all messed up again.  I need some helpz

If I put a game soundtrack that has multiple composers on my iphone to listen to, there is no way for me to listen to the album from track 1->finish in track order.  If I hit "sort by album" it breaks the album into several albums according to each composer and only lists their tracks.

How do I get around this?  It's pretty annoying!

And just to throw in some random music to make the thread more interesting, here's a techno/dance/house remix of Persona 3:

You need to better organize the tracks in iTunes before syncing. You can have different composers in the tags, but the iPod software only lets you sort by album or album artist. So you need to basically organize them all under one album artist (like various) for it to work and be sure to number the tracks in order.

Go to get info and change the info so that every track on the album has the same artist/composer, album name.

It's not an itunes problem, it's a mp3 player problem. Zune does the same shit.

Make compilation option helps too.

Fuck I think Zune/WMP11 is even worse with the tag shit. iTunes is the only thing that keeps it straight and organized for the most part.

That isn't true.  The Zune software automatically sets album artist to "Various" when multiple artists appear in the same album, which you can then go into and change it if you'd prefer it appear in the directory of a particular artist.  It never breaks it up or takes it out of order.

I'm not sure if the metadata will carry over to your iPhone or how it will react to it, but there's a "Sort" tab in iTunes track preferences that allows you to set a "sort artist", bypassing the actual artist tag.

I felt it was worse with zune personally and yes, it broke my albums out of order. I put Persona 3 ost on my zune and it'd be like:

disc 1, track 1
disc 2, track 1
disc 1, track 2
disc 2, track 2

Actually, it is kinda stupid by default, now that you mention it.  You need to go into the Settings -> Music and set it to sort by "Album Only", otherwise it breaks out song artists into seperate entries in the main directory and ignores what I mentioned above.

The thing that doesn't work with the Zune are albums on multiple discs, because the fucking player doesn't distinguish between disc one and disc two in spite of the software collecting this information, it just shuffles the tracks together based on their track number.

Edit: I see you've noticed.  You just need to change the track numbers so disc 2 picks up where disc 1 left off.  It's a pain in the ass.

But compilation albums are relatively hassle-free on the Zune (provided they're on a single disc).

You could put the album in a playlist.

This is one of the things I hate about itunes. I have a bunch of soundtracks that are all over the place because of it.

But what's weird is that up until a month ago when I was on the last major revision of itunes and the iphone 3G 3.0 firmware...it worked.  It would split the albums across artists, but if you clicked on any of the artists on the cd it would show the entire tracklist from track 1->end and play them in order.

It's only when I moved to the latest itunes rehaul and iphone 4.0 that it stopped doing that.  Pretty annoying stuff.  It's like they completely ignore how soundtrack work.

How are those songs remotely listenable? Annoying distinguished mentally-challenged fellow voice ruins it
