I'm not sure that GOW and Motorstorm are such unique games that we would only seem them made from 1st party studios. I'd take Gaiden, DMC, and maybe Bayonetta (just started playing) any day over GOW and none of them is exclusive. Motorstorm 2 is a fun game with friends, but I find the solo features lacking and prefer Dirt 2 when I'm playing alone. Pure is also a decent alternative. Neither Dirt nor Pure offer exactly the type of racing that Motorstorm does but they're close enough and prove that 1st party exclusivity isn't necessary for quality in this genre.
We aren't seeing them, though. Like it or hate it, EA tried to mimic God of War and failed horribly. Motorstorm and Wipeout HD are basically alone at what they do this generation, and I for one like them. And more than anything, I like having those games in
addition to the multiplatform stuff, which is sort of the point I'm trying to make here. Even when the titles are anything but unique in theme and nature, they are additional games, and Sony first party tends to produce high quality stuff, with some studios being top of their class. A strategy based on multiplatform stuff gives you the base, but not those additional titles.
And no, neither Pure nor Dirt are all that much like Motorstorm. Again, like it or hate it, but Motorstorm 2 is a genuinely unique game for this generation. Either way, it's nice having Dirt, Pure
and Motorstorm. A multiplatform strategy removes one option, and a good one too, and you wouldn't have the choice of taking anything else over it because it simply wouldn't exist. It sucks that we haven't gotten a Rallisport.
Oh, and I want a new Rollcage. Who owns that?
