I bought it mid 2008. It's been making some weird noises lately like something was struggling to spin/move/idontfuckingknow. Today it just shut off while I was browsing and it won't turn back on. I just hope it wasn't the hd cause there's some stuff that I wanna get off of it.

So yeah, fuck HP and fuck laptops in general. I'm not paying anyone shit just to look at it and tell me what's wrong with it. I'm buying/attempting to build a desktop in a month or two.

Actually, I would get a laptop again, but only a Lenovo. The last one I had survived so many hits and falls. This hp laptop didn't even get 10% of the abuse that it did. Piece of shit.

yes sir!

my old shit laptop got some nasty virus that i couldn't get removed. i was able to work around the problems it caused for the most part, but it was damn frustrating. it slowly got worse and worse, and one day i decided the best way to deal with this is to pound on the keyboard pretty fuckin hard. ever since then it'll act like it's booting, but then restart itself over & over again. i dunno if the virus finally shut everything down or if i smashed the hard drive, but i need shit off that computer. anyone got any (free) solutions?

My sister brought over an HP laptop and asked if I could do anything to fix it. So I'm running some Antivirus app to clean it up and the shit would turn off on me, no blue screen or nothing. So this points to some serious hardware fault going on. I Google the laptop model and come to find that particular model of laptop and subsequent ones overheat very easily and are generally badly made laptops. SMH, Hewlett Packard.

I haven't tried that, should hit up the BIOS but its running Vista and I ended up turning off some of the graphical shit in the UI and it seems to be running cooler. The scary thing is, when it was running hot, the heat radiating off the vents actually caused pain to my finger when I placed my hand against it. Jesus.

Just looked it up, its a "Nvidia GeForce Go 8400M". And If thats the case, I'll definitely relay that to the owner. I had told them that they needed to contact HP anyways if it keeps occurring but its good to know they can possibly get a new machine.

desktops are worthless for a student whos always traveling back and forth between home & school. its also a lot easier to shit through shit tv with the missus when youve got the internet right in front of your face

I got something in the mail for this, but I haven't had any issues with my laptop with a 8600M yet, so I ignored it. I hope my laptop breaks now, though.

I think those Samsung 9s are the best-looking laptops not made by Apple. Doubtless they are shit for gaming but still, very arousing.

Any such thing for any of the 9XXX powered laptops? My Gateway p-7811fx has 9800M graphics and it's been overheating from day 1. It's so bad that I've never bothered to play games on it.

The Westone 4 caught my eye but I just paid $500 for a Westone 3 LE 11 months ago and one of my 2011 resolutions is to cut down on non-essential spending. I've stopped myself from reading about it on head-fi so that I won't violate that resolution in the very first month.

Samsung's new line of 3D monitors also looks awesome. I just wish there's one with a S-IPS panel for better image quality when not using 3D.

head-fi is ridiculous for inducing the urge to spend money, especially if you start buying into the amps and cables and crap. Best just to check in only when you absolutely need a replacement.

I would really like an earbud upgrade but one of the big advantages to working from home is that I can just listen on speakers or my Sennheisers all day.

nope. the 9XXX's were fine. my brother had a p78 fx and it had the world's shittiest system fan on it. they sell a replacement fan for it for an obscene $120 these days.

If you have to replace it then get a thinkpad. I guess it looks pretty plain which I actually kinda like but those things just don't break and if they do, and if it's your fault, customer service would likely fix it free of charge (happened with water damage on my keyboard).

A few days ago my baby brother dropped the same laptop a few feet and it made hairline cracks on the hinges and even knocked the video cable loose causing the picture to pop in and out of the screen every few seconds but I then turn it on today and it works perfectly. I don't know why, they obviously build them tough so you don't have to sell them some bullshit story about how it's not your fault.
