Should Nintendo be a little more dishonest like Apple.

The ipod touch lasts 2-3 hours when playing infinity blade non stop yet they advertise 8 hours of video streaming.  The ipad lasts 5 hours for 3d gaming yet they advertise 12 hours for video streaming.  Should nintendo advertise the time for movie playback?

The difference is few people would use the 3DS for video streaming so it would look a bit odd if Nintendo adopted that strategy.  What Nintendo could maybe do is to use a game like Tetris in 2D mode and advertise the 3DS as having up to 12 hours of gaming before a recharge is needed.

The point is that Apple doesnt tell you how long 3d gaming lasts on their products, hence you assume that it lasts the same amount of time as video streaming.

Do you really think that matters to any significant degree? The reason Apple devices are selling are because they are satisfying demands, apple is marketing them, and currently Apple is "hip" in a way that handhelds devices from Sony and Nintendo aren't. Nintendo advertising their battery life in the grand scheme of things means jack shit.

Because the 3ds is a gaming handheld and the ipod is a media player?

People who make that kind of broad assumption about the battery life across all kinds of performance are probably not technologically savvy enough to even notice their battery usage.

This is how Apple have always advertised battery lives for their iDevices (only thing missing is talk time over 3G). I've yet to see them include a "gaming" field. Where is the dishonesty?

Probably because gaming on an iDevice is a secondary feature and a distraction. Only an idiot would buy one "for the games."

Well in your defense, people are starting to take gaming on iDevices more seriously. Just look at the sales games are enjoying these days on the appstore, they're easily the biggest selling category by a huge margin, and Apple has been pimping them hard for a while now. Rumors of the next generation of GPUs have started spreading yesterday and it seems like they're going to receive a nice graphical bump, so expect better 3D gaming in the very near future. So who knows, maybe the next battery fact sheet will feature a "gaming" entry.

All of this is my way of saying: "don't be too hard on yourself sweetheart, you're an idiot now, but that can change in the future. Maybe."
