Never was a fan outside of a few songs. I don't really care for his angry man gimmick and rapping for me has never been about some odd measure of technical ability to actually rap. I don't really care about that aspect of it in the most part in the same way that very technical precise singing doesn't interest me either. But as in all things everybody is entitled to their opinion.

The fact that his biggest fans tend to be people I would never hang out with is more an observation rather than a diss at them per se. (Although I'll admit its a bit of a diss)

I don't hate him or anything. He's just not my style.

Having Methodis on your side is never a good thing but the Beastie Boys will always imo be one of the most important rap groups in history and that's if they never ever do another decent rap album (and the last couple weren't great)

are three absolutely amazing albums that absolutely redefined what "hip-hop" actually was and could be. (Hello Nasty is also good)

Licensed to Ill is more an artifact era album but its one that's actually pretty important historically and Brass Monkey and Paul Revere were probably the only two songs ever made by white guys that black people were actually into it back in the day which says something right there.

It's very easy to diss them now if "To the 5 Boroughs" is what you are judging but anybody who actually came of age during hip-hop knows where they stand. They went from being regarded as joke at first, to being considered white guys just cashing in and not respecting the artform, to being considered washed-up and a one hit album wonder to pretty much being respected by most of the rap pioneers and giants and this is a group that is from the run dmc era and still exists. Something that is pretty much unheard of in hip-hop which is completely a flavor of the month genre and never does a good job of respecting the past and history of the genre. And this was before the day and age of just associating yourselves with important rappers was how you gained credibility.

Of course this is just a question of music taste which is rather subjective so I don't really care about the discussion that much. History determines the winner in these sorts of arguments anyway.

I still think the fact that they can play their own instruments put them above any white rapper in existance on that alone, plus they span so many genres besides just hiphop (but theyre best at that).
