Clarkson is FUNNY, sure (timing - he has it), but he also displays a lot of very worrying attitudes. He's got no fucking right to bitch about public sector workers going on strike when he works for the public sector himself (in the form of the BBC), for example. I wish he'd STFU, personally. In a later incident during a Top Gear episode broadcast on 13 November 2005, Clarkson, while talking about a Mini design that might be "quintessentially German", made a mock Nazi salute, and made references to the Hitler regime and the German invasion of Poland by setting the GPS system to Poland.

He's got no fucking right to bitch about public sector workers going on strike when he works for the public sector himself (in the form of the BBC), for example.

His comment regarding the striking workers is distinguished mentally-challenged, but . . . what is the principle here? If a person belongs to a group (superficially here because his salary isn't determined through collective bargaining and is earned through ad revenue and not tax revenue), he or she is not allowed to criticize it? Is a teacher or nurse not allowed to criticize Clarkson's generous salary?

Yeah, he talked about their 'gilt-edged pensions' - of teachers etc. Which based on my mother's experience is just   Guaranteed money, yes, but an absolute pittance given the number of years of service you have to work to get it.

He earns millions of pounds, on the other hand. OK, he has the 'right' to say whatever - it's just fucking stupid of him to be critical when he is earning far more. Tone-deaf. His salary doesn't come from ad revenue, as far as I know - no ads on BBC unless things have changed radically. Of course he has a multitude of income sources - books, DVDs etc and no doubt sponsorships.

Clarkson has pretty snappy delivery (he's like a poor man's Bea Arthur), and he works really well in his role on Top Gear.  But a lot of his schtick is petulance masquerading as gruff manliness.  It's basically #whitewhine that we're meant to take as observational comedy or, when he's got his serious face on, as actual social commentary.

But whatevs.  I can appreciate the fact that he's a loudmouth doofus and still enjoy him on his show.  It'd be hypocritical of me not to, considering I'm about to break out my Best of Chris Benoit DVD.

When you just said that you have to present a balanced view and then say something very unbalanced then yes the first thing was part of the context.
