It's 2012.  Everyone has a cell phone with a camera in their pocket.  It's a fact of life.  Deal with it.

On a side note, maybe I'm just sheltered or whatever but my parents beat the point into me that you don't talk back to police or get smart with them. I'm not saying the kids started the confrontation, clearly they were doing a video on the parking lot shopping carts. Nor am I justifying the cop acting stupidly as Obama would say...but jesus christ dudes, if a cop gets in your face you don't try to grab or push him, and you sure as hell don't talk back.

To be honest I would have backed away and put out my hands if someone took out a tazer threateningly.  It's seems like a natural reaction.

In a perfect world, that would be how things work.  But that's not human nature.  People want to push others' buttons.  People like that want to stick a camera in an officer's face to cause him to overreact in order to get famous on youtube/get the officer in shit.  The officer has to recognize it and not take the bait.

I'm not taser-trained, but from speaking with officers who have carried it a lot, they say it's amazing how subjects suddenly become compliant when that little red laser dot hovers over their chest.

Well if there's one dude I wouldn't piss off under any circumstance, it's the Guy With The Gun.

I've dealt with asshole police on more than a couple occasions. Sometimes no matter how nice you are, they try to start something. One time I got pulled over because my brake light wasn't working. I had just left Murrays (auto shop) where I purchase a new one, and the cop was giving me a hard ass time despite me showing him the light AND the receipt proving I had just bought it. I tried telling him my screw driver was at home, I lived like 10m away from the auto place, and I planned on installing it once I got there but he made me sit in the car while he ran my license for 15 minutes. Then kept trying to talk down to me and shit. Meh, I just took it, said "thank you officer" and drove home.

Unrelated to this situation, but here's a video that shows why law enforcement can sometimes get anxious about people sticking cameras in their faces.

Baltimore police are arresting an individual.  A crowd gathers, one dude gets video going, and in the middle of dealing with the arrest, some dude comes up and cold-cocks and tackles one of the officers.

The video guy then proceeds to get closer into the action, while the officers deal with getting attacked.

It's the worst case scenario, because when backup delivers the (justified) boot to the face, the guy recording the situation gets more aggressive in his recording, forcing the officers to divide their attention between the guy attacking them, and the possible threat posed by the camera guy.
