What has been the nature of your "shit experiences"?
ive been stopped every few months since i was a teenager. sometime it was justified (like speeding), many times it was not. regardless the cops always acted like the dude in that video - condescending, threatening, repeatedly lying, coming up with bullshit excuses to search you or your car. granted ive never had them bring out the dogs, never been arrested, never been beaten, but that's about the best i can say about them. they always go out of their way to humiliate and bully you no matter how you act toward them. then of course you're always left holding a ticket as a wonderful reminder of the time you spent together. a little fine wouldn't be such a big deal, but when i'm out damn near a week's pay for some b.s. they decided to charge me with (how many times have i got a ticket for 7 over on the highway? so many).
but as i said, my experiences are tame compared to friends and family. ever had the cops bust in your door and smash up your stuff, steal your laptop, and piss on your fucking clothes? my friends have, and the cops reasoning was that they wanted to intimidate them to keep them from a protest (they later won a lawsuit for tens of thousands). ever been locked up for days just because someone accused you of theft, even though they had absolutely no proof or witnesses? my fiancee has; god forbid the cops actually try to do make sure they're not fucking over somebody for no reason. ever been locked up for a couple months because fine you thousands of dollars worth of tickets that you can't pay based on incredibly arbitrary rules regarding the car repair business you do on the side at your house? my coworkers husband was. "nevermind that you've got four kids and jack shit for money, you've got three cars on your driveway today! here's a $400 hundred dollar ticket, see you tomorrow!" these are just a few stories, but everyone i know (that doesn't happen to be a hot white chick or a straightedge-looking white dude) has loads of these stories. just everyday harassment that always gives you the feeling of "oh shit, what
now?" when a cop's around.
add to that the more fucked up examples of outright police violence that constantly trickle into our local papers (guess what, we've got the fbi looking into the murder of an unarmed black man by a white man too! only this time the white dude was a cop) and occasionally happen to people i know, and you've got mountain of anecdotal evidence that makes you damn distrustful of the boys in blue.
