No its because its a tile saw, which won't cut soft things unless you really put pressure on it. The regular saws that don't cut flesh work by braking the blade, so you see the machine stop as soon as it hits something.

I felt the urge to yell at my phone as that thumb got closer

was pretty mystified that it didn't stop, thanks for the explanation
