I honestly do not understand why DBZ is still relevant or even popular. There isnt even new material left to cover. (no remakes do not count). Hunter x Hunter and YuYu Hakusho were/are by far the superior shonen of the age and at least HxH has new ground to cover
This is like asking why Mickey Mouse is still popular despite there not being any kind of notable material in ages. There's a point where something becomes so popular it becomes ingrained into the fabric of its medium. The story and characters are simple, yet engaging enough to be universal throughout cultures and time.
For what it's worth, we have yet to see proper adaptations of either the
2008 special, or
Episode of Bardock. The latter's probably going to be this year's gimmick to get people to buy the game.
Hunter x Hunter isn't in the same generation of shonen as Dragon Ball, given it started 2 years after Dragon Ball ended. Hunter x Hunter is in the One Piece, Naruto, and Yu-Gi-Oh! era of JUMP. Dragon Ball's contemporaries were stuff like Fist of the North Star, Saint Seiya, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, Yu Yu Hakusho and Slam Dunk. Hakusho is a better written series than Dragon Ball, but I never felt it was as fun.
when you idiot dragonball fans stop buying them, they'll stop making them.
I've given my money to Spike twice this generation, and both happened in 2010. I am not to blame.
I don't want Dragon Ball games to stop. I just want Dragon Ball games made by Spike to stop. Monolith's RPG was pretty fun, as were GameRepublic's (RIP) games.
