When did Outrage GAF even start/come from? I remember RiskyChris building it up and gathering members for a couple a couple of months in 2010 but then he got banned and it died down until a year later Devo and the 'Sane Crew' started it back up again but then Shanadeus got banned and Devo toned herself down a lot since she outed herself on the bore and it died down for a couple months until it started up again a couple months ago but this time worse than ever and they've even got a new mod to boot on their side now ready to be outraged at every possible thing. I have a feeling this new cycle won't be as fleeting as the previous two.

Not really. However, it wasn't really as large back then. That's the key difference.

Also, just as an aside, I don't know if it's really fair to categorize Mumei as someone who is prone to outrage. Yeah, he takes issue and responds to a lot of progressive issues, but he's generally pretty calm in his discussion. I don't know if 'outrage' is applicable. I don't know what his banning record looks like, so I can't comment on that.

However, I remember back in those days, often you could read a thread and pretty much recognize most if not all of the posters therein. Nowadays? One time I was perusing one of the popularity threads ("Who are you favorite posters?"), and it was somewhat surprising to me how many lists would contain tons of apparently noteworthy posters that were complete unknowns to me.

Just depends on the threads you read I guess, I see users I don't know every now and then who are well into five figures in post count, but they post in totally different threads than I do I guess. If a poster is a Nintendo fanboy who in the OT only posts in American Football threads, I'm not likely to run into him very often.

Yeah. I don't know, maybe it's faulty memory. But it just seems like to me if I were to think back over 5-6 years ago, though there were probably posters that escaped my notice, I don't think subcommunities were as prominent back then where a poster could become notorious only within a subsection without exposure to the forum at large.

Neither do I. I remember the term "cheeseburger" being used quite often. Back in 2004/5 me and White Man would post screen caps of our browser featuring a bunch of tabs, including the cheeseburger Surprise site as an inside joke; eventually other people started doing it too.

Lkewise, "rape" was used as a gaming verb openly - although some mods like Dragona would ban people for it. Overall it was just a very different place. There were certainly serious threads in the OT but it was also a place for joke posts and nerd arguments. Now the OT is clogged with serious threads and the constant discussion of gender roles and stereotypes

While I personally don't "get it," I don't really think you're on the right track, there. From what I understand, I don't think being a furry denotes something inherently sexual, and when it does, it's just another thing in the realm of "off the beaten path fetishism." But, there's a lot of that out there.
