I think getting rid of overly PC stuff might be a good change. I've NEVER liked banned words, since I've been on GAF. I've never liked opinion bans, other than like way too obvious trolling or stormfront type shit.
I do think that the blame has been completely shifted though. No one, short of a person who cannot take any sort of criticism, says they can't post in certain threads because other people will disagree with them or attack them. 95% of the time it's because they think they'll get banned for their opinion. Look at ANY of the recent threads about how to not get banned or about GAF being too strict. People coming out of the woodwork to say how they avoid certain threads and issues out of fear for their account. These threads are about GAF policy, not some illusory boogeyman power that some non-Mod GAF members have.
PC Brigade can't ban anybody. It's disingenuous to try to shift the blame as if all of a sudden out of nowhere PC-ness started happening. It's ALWAYS happened on GAF, people have ALWAYS gotten offended over things, people have ALWAYS disagreed, people have ALWAYS dogpiled on posts that offended them or that they strongly disagreed with. It's a liberal forum and all of this behavior has been happening the entire decade that I've been on GAF. All of this behavior happens all the time in all types of threads. Look at that sometimes cesspool Gaming...
When people are getting banned left and right, other like-minded people don't want to post their opinions, and then arguments look overly one-sided. Look at MIMIC's perm (which I think was cut down to a month or something). People look at that and go "Oh, looks like I can't argue with Timedog or Devo. I'll get banned for no reason." Meanwhile I myself am scratching my head at the ban, much less a perm? Me and him were having a perfectly legitimate argument about abortion, then out of nowhere he gets banned and I see nothing in his post history that would suggest a ban. People look at a ban like that and they get scared. That's a moderator problem.
