Oh man, Lore's "I've been in a thousand fights" line drives me crazy.  As someone who has been involved in BJJ for over 9 years, a BJJ match != a "fight".

I trained some this year, but the last two classes I attended went as follows: broke a rib, took two months off unable to do any sort of physical training, returned, that very class I returned I damaged a rib on the left side. They were just going too aggro at my BJJ school in Austin, even during technique drills. I quit,

I don't even understand the statement. Sparring in a dojo (or whatever you want to call it) isn't the same as a fight.

I have no qualms about saying that in spite (or because of) training near-continuously in various martial arts for 15 years, I have been in precisely zero fights.

(okay, when I was 14 I got in a really lame, ineffectual schoolyard fight for 30 seconds before a teacher hauled me and my opponent to the office.  Whoopy crap.  And in high school I broke up a few beatdowns.  And whenever I pulled the aggressor off, he'd stare at me with rage in his eyes for a few seconds, clearly contemplating continuing his assault against me for daring to interrupt his fun, but always thinking better of it and walking away.)

BJJ is an amazing martial art, and in my opinion would serve someone well in a real self-defence situation.  All things being equal, in my opinion, someone skilled in BJJ has a great advantage in a fight over someone untrained, or even trained in a striking art.  But it's still hypothetical as long as your only experience is rolling around in the gym.

I don't have any first-hand knowledge of krav maga, so all I can really go off of is what I've read and seen online, and from a couple of people who have tried it.

Their demonstrations all seem to be of the sort of pre-set memorized techniques that plague most of the traditional martial arts, like aikido, some karate, and the like.

I see stuff like this:



and I become very skeptical and see little value in it.

On the other hand, I have spoken to a couple people, and heard stories that krav maga training can be seriously hardcore, in terms of conditioning, discipline, and training scenarios, and the like.

So, as someone who hasn't tried it, my feeling is that krav maga is an art that would make you a tough motherfucker, but isn't necessarily one of the most effective martial arts out there.

I got absolutely battered several times doing Jujitsu - but it was still nothing like an actual fight where you are basically bound by some basic rules in the class. I mean - i know this has already been covered but this is fundamental.

I mean - christ - lets say 3 fights a session min, 3 classes a week for 9 years? Oh i've had 4212 fights (reality : about 16 actual fights and most when i was below the age of 18)

They canned the plan for membership cards, then the government said municipalities would have to force coffee shops to check that customers actually lived in the Netherlands, to which virtually all mayors, including those of the largest cities said 'lol, fuck that, we're not checking anything'. So no, it didn't pass.

The only time mushrooms did anything substantial for me music-wise was when I split a half ounce with a friend and thought that listening to oval (ovalcommers or ovalprocess, I can't remember) would be a good idea. It was a little ... intense heh. i cried tears of psychedelic confusion, no lie.

the best time though was at long beach WA; i felt like I was witnessing some cosmic life-cycle metaphor playing out with waves and creatures washing ashore and all the energy behind the ocean just hit me like... WHOA. sounds stupid in text form (and probably is anyway) but if you've had one of those trips you know what I mean haha
